Why Students and Parents need this Consultancy Service? All the personnel including School Board that work in a school are functionaries of the Ministry of Education and are usually bound by collective responsibility. They usually speak with one voice that reflect the interest of Ministry of Education. There is always the need for an independent entity that can review decision on behalf of students and parents to see if they are in breach of the rights of the individual involved. S.P.E.E.C.H.S will act as the mediator between the school, student, parent and the school employee. It will be the voice of the aggrieved student, parent and employees. Last week SPEECHS represented two students who were on the verge of dropping out of school at the average age of 15 year of age. It is simply unacceptable for students to be out of school because they have parents who are unable to manage them. Ultimately, the education system must become cognisance of the fact that parental skills are not equally distributed, and some students are simply overwhelmed by the lack of support that they are getting from uncaring and insensitive parents. Yes, this too helps to determine the benefits that students get out of the education system. Schools may have to plan more seminars to train parents in the management of their responsibility as parents. SPEECHS does some level of parental training too, but finds that many of the parents who need training are not keen on accepting it. This can only be bad for the system.
