The Stolen Throne
Among the many Ethiopian Historic treasures carried of in our history is this beautiful throne of Emperor Haile Selassie I. It was made for and used at his Coronation festivities in November 1930. The throne was taken to Italy during the fascist occupation of Ethiopia along with other important artifacts such as the Aksum obelisk, The Lion of Judah statue of Addis Ababa, and the Princess Tsehay aircraft. The throne was then given to King Vittorio Emanuel III as Mussolini had declared him Emperor of Ethiopia, and was placed in a Royal Palace in Naples where it can be seen in room 27.
The throne originally had armrests in the shape of lions (see the second photograph), but they were evidently sawn off at some point.
