A thriving institution relies on a healthy community. On World Hypertension Day, UWI Mona WJC joins the global call to increase awareness, accurate measurement, and proactive control of high blood pressure.
In demanding academic and corporate environments, chronic stress and sedentary habits can silently elevate cardiovascular risks. By championing preventative health measures, routine screenings, and balanced lifestyle choices, we can foster a safer, more resilient environment for our students, faculty, and staff.
Prioritize your cardiovascular health today. Take five minutes to get screened, understand your baseline numbers, and encourage a colleague or student to do the same.

WJC Cares: World Ovarian Cancer Day
Pelicans, today is about more than just awareness. It’s about action.
Ovarian cancer symptoms can be subtle (bloating, pelvic pain, or changes in appetite), but staying informed can make all the difference.
We’re encouraging you to "listen to the whispers" and prioritize regular health check-ups. Early detection saves lives.

Happy Teachers’ Day!
Today is all about celebrating the passion and heart that educators bring to the classroom every single day.
Teachers are the mentors who challenge us to think bigger and the guides who help us reach our full potential. Whether it’s through a lecture, a life lesson, or a simple word of encouragement, their impact lasts a lifetime.
Join us in showing some love to the educators who have made a difference in your journey!

Celebrating UWI Day 2026
On January 7, 1947, the governing body of the University College of the West Indies held its first meeting in Jamaica - laying the foundation for what would become the Caribbean’s premier institution of higher learning.
Just one year later, the Mona Campus welcomed its first class of 33 medical students.
Seventy-nine years later, UWI Day stands as a perpetual commemoration of our legacy, officially declared by regional governments in 2018 and 2023, and affirmed by the University Council in 2024.
As the Caribbean’s “light rising from the West”, The University of the West Indies shines brightly - ready for the world, shaping a brighter future for generations to come.
Join us in celebrating our rich legacy!
