In honour of Women's History Month, we will be sharing Jamaican Powerhouses.

Before there was a Jamaican art scene, there was Edna Manley. ๐ŸŽจ๐ŸŒบ

Born in England to a Jamaican mother, Edna arrived in Jamaica in 1922 and fell completely in love with the island. She used her art to capture Jamaica's spirit โ€” its people, its energy, its awakening identity.

She co-founded the Jamaica School of Art in 1950, giving generations of Jamaican artists a place to learn and grow. Her masterpiece, Negro Aroused, is one of the most powerful sculptures Jamaica has ever produced.

Edna won the Gold Musgrave Medal and the Order of Merit. She is the Mother of Modern Jamaican Art. ๐Ÿ…

The National Water Commission (NWC) says most of its major water systems remain operational despite the impact of Hurricane Melissa.

However, high turbidity caused by heavy rains and runoff has affected some facilities, leading to service disruptions in parishes such as Manchester, Portland, Trelawny, St Mary, Clarendon, St James, Westmoreland, and Kingston and St Andrew.

Customers are being urged to store and conserve water and ensure that water used for drinking is safe.
