The Anderson's Place of Safety has officially closed their doors today. It has been a short-lived experience with the kids there; however, the impact that the READ UP! Jamaica programme was IMMENSE.
On the very first day the READ UP! Jamaica team met with the kids they were so timid and afraid to even speak. They then blossomed into children who had a fire burning within them that could not be extinguished, they had found the joy that reading brings, the true joy of learning. They realized that reading and learning could be exciting and very interesting, they learned that reading is not just for a designated period such as during school, but rather, an activity that is fitting at any time and that reading is just as fun or even more exciting than the games they play.
It breaks our hearts to know that our children have gone away, but we are able to heal those wounds in our hearts with the awesome feeling that comes when you know that you have helped to change a life for the better.
