Profile

Channel Resource Education Centre was founded in 2000.It offers a programme that seeks to unleash the full potential of each student. Registered under the Ministry of Education, the Centre provides educational services to students who are Exceptional(intellectual and developmental disability and the gifted.) A referral is usually made by the student’s present school or a medical doctor. The students are given a psychological assessment which is reviewed for placement .If placement is granted the Centre requires from student ,Medical Certificate ,2 passport size pictures, Birth Certificate Assessment for identification, placement and instructional planning is offered. Transition
C.R.E.C prepares students for the transition from school to work. Parents are expected to work closely with the transition officer or the senior teacher assigned to the position. The programme facilitates the establishment of linkages the community and business enterprises and works closely with teachers to provide career education and work experience for students. Students are also exposed to entrepreneurial experiences to encourage self-employment

Curriculum
The Centre utilizes two curricula:
The Ministry of Education National Primary /Secondary school Curriculum &
A competency based curriculum specifically geared toward the needs of children with Special Needs.

• The Centre provides intensive individualized remedial instruction for students at risk in primary and secondary schools and adults, in Language Arts and Mathematics.
• Teachers target areas of weakness, enhance strengths and build independence in specific learning strategies and study skills.
• The teachers work along with parents to develop IEPs for students. Climate of Teaching and Learning

• C.R.E.C strives to understand students as individual learners with special needs and learning styles.
• Through that understanding and sensitivity for exceptional /special needs students, the faculty and staff work to guide the students toward academic success and self-advocacy.
• Teachers focus on teaching appropriate strategies based on individual needs of special education students to foster academic and social success
• C.R.E.C is committed to recruiting and retaining individuals with outstanding expertise in the field of special education. Community Partnerships

• C.R.E.C strives to establish and maintain effective partnerships with regular education, parents, social service agencies, private practice professionals (doctors, psychologists, social workers, etc.), and the larger community.
• Continues to involve parent(s)/guardian in the decision making process regarding student's Individual Education Plan (IEP).
• Provides post-secondary transition planning for all students with respect to their individual needs. Prepares Special Needs Students to take their rightful place in the society.
