The Caribbean Graduate School of Theology (CGST) was established in September 1986 as a regional evangelical theological institution geared to serving the needs of the Caribbean Church. The Graduate School emerged out of assessed needs by the Caribbean evangelical constituency and the mandate for its genesis was given by the Caribbean Evangelical Theological Association (CETA). CETA continues to provide ownership and active support for the institution. The institution was established, at first, in partnership with the Jamaica Theological Seminary (JTS) and for almost two decades shared campus location with the JTS that provided theological education at the undergraduate level. Throughout that period both schools operated under a joint leadership on the same campus in Kingston, Jamaica. Now in its third decade, the Graduate School (CGST) exists as a separate institution with its own leadership and governance structure and has positioned itself to take full advantage of the expressed needs and opportunities for Christian higher education in Jamaica and throughout the Caribbean region. The Graduate School’s mission is accomplished by operating inter-denominationally across confessional lines but within a clear evangelical ethos. The demographic base of the School comprises a mix of young (under 30s) and mature students (50 and over), with a very diverse representation of the Christian constituency, including approximately 35 denominational affiliations.
