Meet Gabrielle Whittaker of Campion College, who shared how eye-opening it was to discover a space where children’s voices are not only heard but taken seriously by the adults and policymakers shaping their future.

From mental health to child protection, Gabrielle emphasised how powerful it is when young people are given a platform and how vital it is for decision-makers to truly listen.

Her hope?
That the Caribbean, and Jamaica especially, will continue strengthening these spaces so that the voices of children influence real change and that one day, the conference will stand proudly on a global stage.

The Children’s Research Panel is underway, with young researchers from across the Caribbean presenting powerful studies on issues impacting their lives and communities.

Chaired by Dr. Arlene Bailey of Salises: Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies, today’s presentations highlight topics such as mental health, education, substance misuse, disability inclusion, and child well-being across Jamaica, Grenada, Tobago, and Suriname.

A remarkable display of knowledge, courage, and child-led research that will shape the future of policy and child rights in our region.
