Founded in 1836, The Mico University College (formerly The Mico Teachers’ College) in Kingston, Jamaica is the oldest teacher training college in the Western hemisphere and one of the oldest in the world, rivaling the Battersea College (1817) in England. The Mico University College was so renamed in 2006 through an act of the Jamaican parliament, thereby making it a degree-granting institution.
