So much of what makes a place special is easy to miss when we only look for what can be sold or developed. A lot of what makes a place special isn’t loud.

It’s the one-of-a-kind blues of Exuma’s waters and the life they support beneath the surface. It’s the conch scattered along the shoreline, the Bahama mockingbird hopping through the brush with lunch in its beak while you enjoy a coconut on the beach. It’s the things you’d miss if you weren’t paying attention.

The more time I devote to the outdoors, the more i’m reminded that places like the Exuma cays don’t need to be transformed to be valuable. Their value already exists in the wildlife they maintain, the habitats they provide and the role they play in a much larger ecosystem.

Take a moment to notice what is already here.
And then ask yourself: is it worth protecting?

Follow to stay informed and help ensure a brighter, safer future for The Bahamas.

Came to Exuma to face a fear and left with an even deeper appreciation for what makes my country so special.

After learning about a proposed development on Sampson Cay, which includes dredging in this beautiful area called the North Bay, I felt it was important to share. Not because I’m against development, but because I believe development should happen with transparency and with respect for the environment, wildlife, and communities that have existed long before any project.

I also believe people deserve to be properly informed about what’s happening so that developers can be held accountable for their actions, commitments, and promises.
