The J.A.C.L.D is a private, non-profit, voluntary organization dedicated to serving the needs of children with Learning Disabilities in Jamaica. The Organization receives a subvention from the Government of Jamaica through the Ministry of Education. The Association was founded by a small group of concerned citizens in 1976. It remains the only organization that provides services exclusively for youngsters between the ages 6 and 16 years who have a specific Learning Disability. The Association establishes as its main mission, the maximizing of the potential of all children with Learning Disabilities in Jamaica through Assessments, Education, Counselling and Public Education. In order to accomplish this mission the Learning Centre was established in 1979.
