Film Jamaica While Vacationing & Earn a Certificate

Falmouth, Trelawny, Jamaica, Thursday, October 11, 2012 — Visitors traveling to Jamaica anytime soon can now experience this Caribbean paradise through unique workshops taught by local students at The RAS ASTOR BLACK INTERACTIVE MUSIC & ARTS LEARNING INSTITUTE and earn a certificate in film and culinary arts while learning about local culture at the same time. Jamaica – the jewel of the Caribbean – has allured professional and amateur photographers for years and continues to be a favorite of film enthusiasts worldwide. Now, The RAS ASTOR BLACKINTERACTIVE MUSIC & ARTS LEARNING INSTITUTE situated AT THE Trelawny Stadium in historic Falmouth, offering an exciting new program for tourists called “Video and Vacation Photography Tours & Classes” for those who truly want to discover all the breathtaking natural beauty this tropical paradise has to offer. Photo enthusiasts of all levels are encouraged to enroll in one of the custom tailored class workshops designed to teach participants to become better photographers while also having the opportunity to travel around Jamaica and learn about local culture and culinary skills with local students. Through the eyes of a camera lens, participants will discover all of Jamaica’s riches – from its lush green tropical forests, to its majestic mountains and waterfalls, to its world renowned beaches – and learn how to capture it all on film. What really makes this program unique is its being taught by local photography and film students at the art institute. This allows participants to experience local culture firsthand while traveling through the island with students knowledgeable in both photography and local Jamaican culture. In addition to developing photography skills participants will also receive lessons in how to prepare Jamaican dishes. The workshops – which vary in length from one day, three days, one or two weeks - will teach participants how to become better photographers and videographers while also providing them with a unique holiday experience. Upon completion of the workshop participants will earn a certificate in film/culinary arts from RAS ASTOR BLACKINTERACTIVE MUSIC & ARTS LEARNING INSTITUTE

The RAS ASTOR BLACK INTERACTIVE MUSIC & ARTS LEARNING INSTITUTE is centrally located at the Trelawny Stadium and soon a branch at the recently opened Port of Falmouth, home of the Royal Caribbean cruise-lines mega ship Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas. The school was founded in 1994 by Ras Astor Black and is part of an exciting entertainment and sports complex, including a Reggae Walk of Fame and Museum currently under development. Radio Production – This course is a basic introduction to radio production. Learn how to operate studio equipment as well as the theory behind it. Gain an understanding how analog audio is converted to digital audio and use digital audio editing software. Students will also get an introduction to on air presentation as well as news and sports writing presentation. Production Technology – Through the creation of audio productions learn more in depth the fundamental principles of broadcast audio systems (analog & digital) for radio beginning with sound waves and the nature of electricity advance to audio consoles, associated equipment and related software. Radio Presentation – An introduction to current affairs programming, creating an opportunity for students to host, produce and interview. Learn how to produce regularly scheduled radio programs and learn how to develop your radio presentation skills and interview techniques. Also learn how to research, write and develop an audio documentary. In the next part of the program the course expands on the basic principles of on air presentation, information programming and audio production. Learn more in depth how to write, produce and present feature programming & audio production specials. Learn how to advance audio production techniques. The advancing of vocal development and skills is achieved through techniques, exercises and practical performance. In the next phase students will be encouraged with the development of their presentation skills. Students will staff the school radio station in various shifts and will be assigned responsibilities for the operation and maintenance of specific departments within the radio station. Students will also be involved in the preparation of reports and features and will host and anchor positions on live-to-air programs. Program Directing – Learn the fundamentals of a program director or radio producer. Learn the job of how to plan each day’s radio programming and give it to the disc jockey and audio engineer what they have to cover each day for the live radio broadcast. Writing for the Media – This course provides students with an opportunity to explore career options in broadcast writing, while discovering & developing a personal writing style. Interviewing, advertising and storytelling in various media forms (radio & television) are explored with emphasis on creative technique, format and writing processes. Broadcast Journalism – Learn the basics of writing for radio and the media. Students are introduced to proper formatting, the mechanics of writing for broadcast, different styles of writing adding audio inserts and the role & responsibilities of reporting. Particular attention is paid to writing styles and reporting both inside and outside the newsroom. Emphasis is placed on the legal and ethical aspects of news writing and reporting. Marketing and Advertising – This course provides a basic introduction to the concepts and principles of advertising, media sales, marketing, public relations and promotions.
