We are proud to unveil our new and improved hallway, as part of The Outreach & Education Improvement Project! Made possible through the support of our partners at Sandals Foundation, the UWI Discovery Bay Marine Laboratory has successfully completed this phase of our journey to enhance our educational impact as we continue to foster the next generation of scientists and nature enthusiasts.

We extend our sincere thanks to all contributors. We look forward to continued success in our upcoming endeavours.

Fun fact! Research has found that 100% of the persons who visit our lab, and experience our immersive hallway attraction, leave not only enlightened, but more excited about preserving our environment!

On February 2, 2026, Worlds Wetlands Day, We showed our support to the efforts of NEPA, The Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries and Mining and Ministry of Water, Environment and Climate Change other regional bodies, who came together to assist those at the heart of Hurricane Melissa's impact. Our staff braved the early morning’s cold front to pack up and head out to Parottee, St. Elizabeth to participate in NEPA's Bulky Waste Mangrove Cleanup. Our assistance in this cleanup demonstrates our commitment not only to the preservation of our island’s vital natural coastal resources but the people that directly depend on them, no matter how far they may be.

Earlier this week, The UWI Discovery Bay Marine Lab team, through the North Coast Mangrove Conservation Project, made things a little brighter for residents of Salt Marsh, Trelawny by distributing Solar lanterns to each household.

This community, nestled within the mangroves, was severely impacted by the hurricane and may be without power for some time.

Special thank you to Oraine and Allison Williams and friends for their kind donations.

Cushion stars are a thick-bodied species of starfish found in tide pools and reefs. When one is flipped upside down, it anchors some tube feet, lifts an arm, and slowly rotates its whole body until it’s right-side up.

We are grateful to be safe following the passage of Hurricane Melissa. Thank you for the many messages and check-ins!

We definitely saw damage to our property and while we continue to clean up and restore, our main focus for the past week has been helping the schools in our community. That's where we can make the biggest difference right now.
If you are able to, please offer a hand where you can—whether it's clearing debris or providing support. We are all in this together.
Sending love and strength to the everyone❤️🇯🇲

What an unforgettable day! It was inspiring to see our campers learning about and participating in a sea turtle release with . The campers beamed as they dug the nest, rinsed and guided these baby turtles back to the sea.
We love witnessing conservation in action!
