We are a Term Time Pre school offering two sessions a day, morning and afternoon. Gym , Dance and Drama are also part of the curriculm.

We are a Term Time school offering two sessions a day, morning and afternoon, where the curriculum is planned to enable each child to reach the learning goals of Foundation Stage. It covers activities to encourage ‘Communication’, ‘Personal, Social and Emotional Development’ and ‘Physical Development’. (Prime areas) and ‘Literacy’, ‘Understanding the World’, ‘Mathmatical Development’ and ‘Expressi

ve Arts and Design’. (Specific areas)

Children start with us part time in the Afternoon School from the age of 2½ years progressing to our Morning School where they attend for 5 mornings a week and have the option of a full day. We have joined the Jersey Pre School Quality Framework ensuring that we give every child high quality opportunities for learning. View JPSQF here

In line with most settings in the UK and Jersey we user ‘Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage’ – see link – Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) as a support to our teaching. Projects are followed which link the artwork with themes that have been chosen. Music is an important feature and the children are exposed to classical and modern music as well as Nursery Rhymes and the use of percussion instruments. We have visiting qualified music teachers, both morning and afternoon, and the children work in a large light and airy music room. Older children have a session of Yoga Bugs once a week led by a qualified yoga teacher, which is very popular. The manager of The Acorn is Mrs Mandy King, a qualified teacher with a wealth of experience of working in the early years. The owner, Mrs Vicky Scarborough , also a qualified teacher, has opened and run two Acorn Nursery Schools in London before re locating to Jersey. An additional strength is our highly qualified staff who have an absolute passion for giving each child the very best possible start as they take those early steps out into the world.

Hello and welcome back to families old and new…

We have had a lovely couple of days making new friends and learning all our new routines.

It has been wonderful to see all the children settle into Acorn life and we are looking forward to getting to know each and every one of them! 👧👦

A little snapshot of the last week of term…

The sun shone for our music concert in the courtyard and we wished a fond farewell to all our foundation stage children who are flying the Acorn nest today. We have loved watching you all grow and know you are ready to take the next step in moving on to ‘big school’.

We hope all our families and followers have a wonderful summer holiday and we look forward to welcoming children into Acorn in September. 🌳

Despite the changeable weather our younger children have been thinking about the Sea side and delicious ice creams🍦

This week we have been exploring patterns. We have dressed in stripes and noticed how they repeat. Other patterns are more random as we discovered on Wednesday when the children wore patterns of their choice. We looked at all the patterns in our natural world like stripy zebras and spotty fish. We all decided that we like patterns! 🎨

🎶 For every bear that ever there was, will gather there for certain because, today's the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic 🎶

What a beautiful afternoon for our annual Teddy Bear’s picnic. It is always a highlight of our year and it was lovely to welcome all the families into Acorn’s garden 🌸 🧺 🌳

We welcomed all the Daddy’s into Acorn for some breakfast and a play in the garden to celebrate Father Day.

This week some of our younger children have been thinking about dinosaurs and have been busy creating their own dinosaur ‘swamps’ and ‘eggs’ 🥚 🦕

We hope you all have a wonderful half term break and look forward to welcoming all the children back on Monday 3rd June☀️

We were treated to a visit from one of our wonderful Acorn parents, who is also a professional artist.

Mrs Bonn came in to help the children make their own screen prints. It was a fabulous morning enjoyed by both children and staff. 🎨
