Launching at a beautiful time, as we welcome the Chinese New Year, ๐๐ช๐ต๐ต๐ญ๐ฆ ๐๐ข๐ฏ๐ต๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฏ ๐๐ต๐ฐ๐ณ๐ช๐ฆ๐ด invites children to step into Ancient China through sound, imagination, and story.
In each episode, host Briony travels back in time with her 6-year-old companion, Lele (ไนไน). Together, they explore history through:
๐ง Immersive soundscapes
๐ถ Music inspired by traditional Chinese instruments
๐ญ Playful, story-led dialogue rooted in real historical foundations
๐ Meaningful Mandarin that children can understand, remember, and use
This podcast is created for curious children under 8 โ and the parents who journey with them.

An Emperor sets a challenge. Twelve animals gather at the edge of a wide, rushing river. No bridges. No boats. Only wit, courage, and determination.
Who will cross first, who will help, and who will trick? As the race unfolds, children are invited to ask: Was it only about being fast? And why did every animal matter?

๐งง๐ฅRed envelopes in tiny hands. Dumpling flour on happy faces. The sound of children singing in Mandarin โ and meaning every word.
On Saturday, our children stepped into the traditions of Chinese New Year in the most beautiful way. They didnโt just learn about the festival โ they lived it. ๐ฅ๐งง๐ถ
But you might wonder โ why celebrate Lunar New Year here, thousands of miles from China?
Because no matter where we are, the spirit of Chinese New Year is universal. Itโs about family, hope, fresh starts, and honouring the traditions that connect us across generations and continents. By sharing these customs with our children, weโre not just teaching them about another culture โ weโre opening their hearts to a wider world. And thatโs something worth celebrating, wherever you are. ๐โค๏ธ
Thank you to every family who joined us. We canโt wait to seeing you again!

Why Immersion Language Learning Approach Works for 3โ5 Year Oldsโ๐คจ
Before age 6, the brain is doing something extraordinary. Itโs not memorising. Itโs absorbing patterns.
Research shows young children learn languages best when:
โ meaning comes before explanation
โ language is repeated naturally
โ learning is emotional + physical
Thatโs why immersion works.
Children donโt ask, โWhat does this mean?โ They feel it. And one day, they realise โ they understand.

From Where We Begin, to Where We Can Go ๐
In the photo, the girl on the right was once a ThinkChinese student. She excelled in Chinese GCSE and HSK 4, and now studies Chinese at university. She is currently on exchange at Nanjing University, living the language she once met in a classroom in Jersey.
The little boy on the left is just 3.5 years old. He joined our Junior Immersion Programme last August. Between them is time, learning and a journey Iโve been fortunate to witness again and again.
ThinkChinese began in early 2017. Back then, it was one person, one classroom, and a handful of students. No big plans. Just a clear belief: Chinese deserved to be taught properly, thoughtfully, and with long-term vision.
Year by year, that belief took shape. We introduced the HSK exams to Jersey, taught nearly all Chinese GCSE students on the island, with consistently outstanding results, led two China trips, bringing over 30 people to China for their very first encounter with the country, pioneered a Chinese immersion programme for children aged 3โ5.
Along the way, Jersey students went on to study Chinese at leading UK universities: UCL, LSE, Edinburgh, Durham, Sheffield โ combined with French, Economics, Japanese, Translation.
People often say โlearning a new language opens a new door.โ That isnโt a slogan. Itโs something weโve watched happen in real lives. Chinese has reshaped confidence, expanded horizons, and quietly redirected futures in ways families never fully anticipated.
We donโt yet know where the boy's journey will lead. But we know how it begins. And that beginning matters more than most people realise.
If youโre thinking about Chinese for your child for the long run โ please drop us a line.๐

A Chinese school that doesn't teach Chinese??? ๐ฏ๐คท
Parents often ask - what does Immersion really mean?
To put it simple, in our Immersion Programme we donโt start with words. We start with meaning. As a result, children donโt โlearn Chineseโ. They hear it, see it, move with it, and respond to it.
Just like they learned English. Research shows children before the age of 6 learn a new language the same way as their mother tongue.
Our Immersion Class creates a world of songs, stories, routines, and play. No translation. No hard memorisation. No pressure.
We believe for these young learners language is not a subject โ itโs an experience where language acquisition happens naturally and confidence is fostered.
Our Junior Immersion Programme is designed for children aged 3โ5yrs. Class runs every Saturday morning from 10:30-11:30. Curious to see what learning can feel like? Please contact the team to book a trial lesson. ๐๐๐

It reminds us that real ability isnโt revealed in a sprint, but over timeโthrough consistency, resilience, and endurance.
This year marks ThinkChinese 9th year operating in Jersey. Looking back, we feel incredibly proud of the reputation weโve builtโstep by step, lesson by lesson, relationship by relationship.
We are deeply grateful for the trust, opportunities, and support weโve received over the yearsโfrom our students, parents, and business partners. Your belief in our work has allowed us to keep going, improving, and growing with intention.
In the year ahead, weโre excited to continue to expand online and reach more learners beyond our island. But rather than galloping ahead at full speed, weโre choosing a path that reflects who we are:
๐ To go far.
๐ To build carefully.
๐ To stay committed for the long term.
Because distance reveals strengthโin horses, and in people. Weโd love to bring you along on this next stage of the journey.
Watch this space.

The Question About Christmas in China That Actually Matters
Does China celebrate Christmas?
Every December, this question comes up. And every year, I realise we may be asking the wrong one.
In China, isnโt a public holiday. For most people, it isnโt religious either. Yet in classrooms, language schools, and city streets, children still sing songs, hear stories, and exchange small presents.
Thatโs where learning begins - children are taught ๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ธ to think ๐ญ๐ก๐ซ๐จ๐ฎ๐ ๐ก another culture, rather than ๐ธ๐ฉ๐ข๐ต to ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ค ๐๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ it.
Christmas in China is a powerful example. The same symbols โ a tree, a song, a story โ carry different meanings in different places. When children notice this, something important happens: they begin to understand that perspective is shaped by context.
For children, this isnโt confusing. It feels natural.
They learn that difference doesnโt need to be judged or explained away โ it can be explored. That learning doesnโt only live in textbooks, but in , contrast, and conversation.
In a connected world, children wonโt just meet people who speak different languages. Theyโll meet people who see the world differently.
Our role as educators and parents isnโt to give children all the answers. Itโs to help them ask better questions. Because when children learn how to think โ theyโre better prepared for the world theyโre growing into.
๐If this way of learning resonates with you:
Our immersion classes are designed to help children experience language through culture, stories, and real-world contexts. Feel free to reach out or learn more about how we support children growing up in a connected world. ThinkChinese
Wishing you a thoughtful Christmas, wherever and however you celebrate. ๐ ๐

๐โจ Christmas with a Chinese Twist โจ๐
Did you know that in China, one popular Christmas tradition is gifting beautifully wrapped apples? ๐
The apple is called โpรญngguวโ (่นๆ), which sounds like โpeaceโ (pรญngโฤn ๅนณๅฎ) in Chinese.
On Christmas Eveโknown as โPeaceful Nightโ (ๅนณๅฎๅค)โpeople exchange apples to wish one another peace, safety, and good fortune for the year ahead.
Christmas in China is about sharing joy, kindness, and small meaningful gesturesโa reminder that the spirit of the season can look different around the world, yet still feel familiar. ๐โจ
Classes have now finished for the holiday and we wish all our students and families a peaceful Christmas.
