I returned from Stockholm, Sweden in January this year where, as a professional musician, I combined this role with working as an English language pre-school teacher, with focus on 3-6 year olds for three years. As a singer-songwriter and guitarist I integrated much music and movement into the learning sessions during that time, finding that children responded positively and openly, often with an
increased energy and willingness to learn. Having returned to Jersey to settle I decided to combine and focus my passion for music with my love for pre-school education. Offering children music education at a young age in a playful way will help to harness and encourage the fundamental
aspects of musical training – rhythm, pitch, tone and melody as story. But these workshops are not only aimed at those children who might want to move on to learn a musical instrument – the aim of these sessions is also to encourage the development of social skills. Having worked with many inspiring pre-school teachers, music teachers and storytellers I found that music education for young children was most effective when there there was a cross fertilization between music, drama and visual art. In my music sessions I will strive to create an environment in which the children feel stimulated and confident to explore their own creativity through a blend of these creative mediums. My sessions will use guitar and rhythm instruments and integrate singing and storytelling with the use of movement. I am fully insured and have an up to date enhanced police check.
