Two proud moments for the Jersey Youth Assembly on Thursday
Jersey Overseas Aid Youth Driving Change event brought together an inspiring evening with UNICEF UK and Restless Development as well as some of our members. Together, we explored how young people are leading development efforts, advocating for their rights and creating meaningful, lasting change both worldwide and here in Jersey.
We also want to celebrate JYA members Jack and Charlie, who presented at the Mental Health Strategy 2026-2030 Launch at the Town Hall. Earlier this year, the Jersey Youth Assembly held a dedicated session to review and rank key priorities, our members’ insight and engagement helped shape this important strategy to improve Islanders' mental health. Their contribution was warmly received and reflects the power of youth participation in decision making. 🧠🤝

The next generation of decision-makers, in action.
The Jersey Youth Assembly returned to the States Chamber for its second ever formal debate on 17 March, with 24 Members taking on issues that matter right now.
From whether vapes should be available by prescription only, to the debate on banning social media for under 16s 📱
Passion filled the room, with Members challenging each other’s views, asking Ministers tough questions and even changing their minds along the way.
The debate topics were complex and timely, and it’s clear these young people are more than ready to take them on 💭

One week to go ⏳
In 7 days, the debate moves into the States Chamber. Time to get those questions ready, finalise your statements, and prepare to press the mic button and take the floor.
You’ll know the feeling before proceedings begin. Quiet chats across the room, papers being shuffled, last minute notes, and that buzz in the Chamber just before it all starts.
See you in the Chamber next week. 👀
