We are incredibly proud to have secured the talents of Sam Barnes from Drum & Bass outfit ZeroZero for the month of August, as he returns to the island for a short period.

Having spent the last 8 years living in Amsterdam and Vienna, working as a producer, studio engineer and tutor, Sam is extremely experienced in a number of areas with a recent invitation to contribute to the Loopmasters suite of producer packs his most recent accolade.

We are offering the following three courses (multi book discounts available):

1 – Drum & bass production - 8 sessions - £240

For those wanting to get in to D&B production or for those who have limited experience and want to enhance their knowledge, working in groups of 4 – 6.

2 – Finishing your music – any genre – 4 lessons - £160

One of the biggest challenges new producers find is taking ideas to fully finished pieces, this short course working in a 1-1 setting will help you make your ideas reality

3 – Drum & bass DJing – advanced course - 4 sessions - £160

This course is for DJs who can mix to a reasonable level, but want to learn form an artist who regularly plays in some of Europe’s best D&B events.

Introductory DJ classes re-starting on May 11th, with experienced and passionate tutors. Junior and adult classes available.

All equipment provided and no prior experience necessary.

DJY completed the digital DJing course towards the end of last year. It became apparent very quickly that he is an extremely talented musician and had some experience DJing a number of years ago on vinyl, however had not been exposed to the digital side of things and didn’t have access to equipment at home.

Because of this, it took a little longer for him to get to grips with the kit, however once he did, his innate understanding of music theory and practical application really stetted to shine through and his confidence grew extremely quickly - you can tell how much how hungry he was by the way he moves through the tracks on his mix, the transitions come thick and fast!

What I love about this mix is how it starts on a real party vibe and progressively gets deeper - most DJs, at the beginning of their journey, start mellow and get progressively heavier, it shows a real understanding of the art to go the other way, and to do so in such a short time is really impressive.

I’n sure this mix will be well received, hopefully it brings lift to your week!

INTRODUCING… Mishella

Mishella was the first student enrolled, contacting us soon after we opened. From the moment we started working it was very clear that she had an absolutely insatiable appetite for electronic music and DJing. Having some experience using vinyl, Michelle had not long invested in a modest digital setup for home but was keen to enhance her skills and get some guidance with her development.

In her own words:

“For as long as I can remember, I’ve been totally obsessed and in love with music.

My late father inspired my eclectic musical taste at a very young age, introducing me to music of different genres, decades and cultures. Clubbing followed, with my mum sneaking me into BCM Music Empire at the age of 14 & I was hooked!!

My love of house music started in the mid 80’s, inspired by the Chicago/Detroit scene. I started making mix tapes, progressing to my first set of 1210’s in the 90’s and recently moving into the world of digital DJing.

To continue my journey, I decided to enrol on INSOUND’s first digital DJ course to polish & learn new skills. At INSOUND, you’ll find local DJs who are happy to support abs join your journey with the various DJ courses to offer.

You’ll find me playing everything from hip-hop, funk & disco right through to house and techno...not forgetting all the weird and wonderful in between! Finding tracks, sharing & connecting with people through music is my happy place for sure!’

This mix is a real shot in the arm and the perfect tonic for these testing times. Straight up house, packed full of disco and soul samples with an amazing groove, there are a couple of moments in here that show that Mishella totally gets what DJing is all about.

I have no doubt that we’ll be seeing much more of Mishella in 2021, lighting up parties and venues across Jersey in her unique and energetic way.

INTRODUCING I--->

** DJ Nina Morenita **

Nina is one of the first students to have come through our introduction to digital DJing course here at InSound Jersey.

Nina explained that she had been surrounded by DJs and electronic music in her native Switzerland former than half of her life but had never taken the plunge to learn how to to DJ herself until recently, when she picked up a modest controller based setup and started playing around at home.

It was clear from early on that Nina had a very refined taste and was extremely committed to improving her skill set.

In her own words:

‘i love dancing! And I love music which makes people dance!

Since very long time ago I wanted to learn djing - now finally I started. insound jersey helped me with my first steps and brought me together with my dear DJ-friend Michelle (DJ Mishella). Hope you enjoy my first mix!’

What I love about this mix is how electronic it is, centred around house with nods to European cosmic disco without an over reliance on vocals or overtly heavy tracks to create a powerful mix with a clear narrative. Nina favours longer blends and there are some really interesting interchanges between tracks which is a sign of a DJ with a really strong understated of what the art entails.

Seeing Nina’s development over the 8 lessons and also how much she embraced not just the course but the world of electronic music has been an absolute pleasure.

We can’t wait to see how she continues her development over coming months and years.
