EXPLORING MATERIALS
After reading "The Three Little Pigs" in English, the children showed a spontaneous interest in the materials used by the characters to build their houses.
Starting from this curiosity, they explored different materials—straw, wood, and bricks—discovering how different they are from one another through observation and hands-on experimentation.
The first material explored was straw. The children described it in many ways:
“La paglia è appiccicosa, per questo rimane attaccata”
“É dura da rompere!”
“É un pochino puzzolente”
“Sembra la casa delle api”
“Io l’ho sentito allo zoo questo odore”
“È morbida”
They then moved on to wood: some children tried to tie branches together to build small structures, while others explored how wood reacts to pressure and cutting.
Finally, they investigated bricks, experimenting with breaking them and using them for drawing and marking.
Through this experience, children engaged in active exploration, comparing materials and developing their understanding through direct experience.
