🌍 L’antropologa Megnaa Mehtta e Him Uddin, residente di Marghera, ci accompagneranno alla scoperta delle comunità bangladesi, visitando i luoghi della quotidianità di una delle più grandi diaspore bangladesi in Italia.

✨ The walks of the program The Many Venices continue. For the second event, we will venture beyond the island to Mestre, exploring the often-overlooked geographies of the contemporary lagoon.

🌍 Anthropologist Megnaa Mehtta and Marghera resident Him Uddin will guide us through the stories and everyday spaces of the Bangladeshi communities, visiting the places that reflect the lives of one of Italy’s largest Bangladeshi diasporas.

In occasione della Venice Climate Week, sabato 6 giugno, l’artista Olafur Eliasson sarà Ocean Space per un intervento dal titolo “Trust and transformation”.

💦 Nella sua pratica artistica Eliasson affronta l'emergenza ambientale attraverso l'esperienza sensoriale diretta, con installazioni immersive e sculture che esplorano la percezione, la corporeità e l'interazione tra gli esseri umani e l'ambiente che li circonda.

L’artista occupa un posto di rilievo nella collezione di TBA21, dalla serie The horizon (2002), che mappa le coste islandesi attraverso quaranta fotografie, a Your black horizon Art Pavilion (2005), commissionato da TBA21 per la 51ª Biennale di Venezia.

On Saturday, 6 June, as part of Venice Climate Week, the artist Olafur Eliasson will be at Ocean Space for a keynote titled “Trust and transformation”.

💦 In his artistic practice, Eliasson engages environmental urgency through direct sensory experience, with immersive installations and sculptures that explore perception, embodiment, and the interplay between humans and their environment.

The artist holds a long-standing place in TBA21's collection, from The horizon series (2002), mapping Iceland coastlines through forty photographs, to Your black horizon Art Pavilion (2005), commissioned by TBA21 for the 51st Venice Biennale.

Ad animare il dialogo, che riunisce prospettive scientifiche e artistiche, saranno Sébastien Ruiz (Fondation Tara Océan), Haley Ha (Schmidt Ocean Institute), e Karmenu Vella (Ex commissario europeo per l'Ambiente, gli oceani e la pesca, e ora consigliere speciale dell'attuale commissario responsabile per gli oceani e la pesca, il sig. Kadis), moderati da Markus Reymann (co-direttore di TBA21).

Insieme rifletteremo sulle connessioni tra osservazione scientifica, ricerca artistica e impegno civico e responsabilità collettiva di fronte alla crisi climatica.

Bringing together scientific and artistic perspectives, the conversation will feature Sébastien Ruiz (Fondation Tara Océan), Haley Ha (Schmidt Ocean Institute), and Karmenu Vella (Former European Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries and now Special Advisor to current Commissioner in charge of Ocean and Fisheries, Mr Kadis), moderated by Markus Reymann, Co-Director of TBA21.

Together, they will reflect on the connections between scientific observation, artistic research, civic engagement, and our shared responsibility in responding to the climate crisis.

How many stories does Venice hide? 🌊 Join us on Friday, June 5, for the first event in "The Many Venices. Walking Through Migrant Histories, Communities Across the Lagoon Between Past and Present", a series of four walks co-curated by Ocean Space and wetlands.

Luca Cosentino, Editorial Director of wetlands, will lead us on a walk through Castello and Cannaregio, tracing the connections between Venice and African routes through the stories explored in the book African Venice.

Moving between past and present, the city emerges as a space of exchange, movement, and layered cultural histories that often remain unseen.

The second edition, titled “Planet Aqua, Planet Peace,” invites us to rethink the future of the planet starting from water as a fundamental infrastructure through which to interpret the major transformations of our time.

🫧 From 9:30am to 8pm, guests from a wide range of fields and sectors will take part in conversations, reflections, and gatherings where scientific research, public policy, artistic practices, and civic participation come together to imagine new
models of coexistence between natural and human systems.

“The Many Venices” è un viaggio tra storie migranti, comunità e influenze della laguna di Venezia. 🫧

Parte del programma pubblico 2026 di Ocean Space, il ciclo di quattro camminate invita a riscoprire la laguna attraverso le prospettive delle comunità che hanno plasmato la città nel corso dei secoli.

Ci muoveremo dal continente africano al Bangladesh e al Medio Oriente, fino alle reti migratorie contemporanee che continuano a trasformare Venezia oggi.

🚶‍♀️ A giugno e settembre, guidati/e da persone ospiti legate all’universo editoriale di wetlands, attraverseremo calli, strade, quartieri, negozi e laboratori, attraverso itinerari che riveleranno una Venezia spesso nascosta allo sguardo comune, una città costruita attraverso incontri, movimenti e attraversamenti.

“The Many Venices” is a journey through migrant stories, communities, and the influences that have shaped the Venetian lagoon. 🫧

Part of the 2026 public program of Ocean Space, this cycle of four walks invites participants to rediscover the lagoon through the perspectives of the communities that have shaped the city over the centuries.

We will move from the African continent to Bangladesh and the Middle East, tracing contemporary migratory networks that continue to transform Venice today.

🚶‍♀️ In June and September, guided by guest contributors connected to the editorial world of wetlands, we will walk through calli, streets, neighbourhoods, shops, and workshops along itineraries that reveal a Venice often hidden from ordinary view, a city built through encounters, movements, and crossings.

🌊 “The Many Venices” is co-curated by Ocean Space and wetlands, with the support of Venezia FC, Community Partner of Ocean Space.

Questo fine settimana ti aspettiamo a “Voga! Woda!”, un laboratorio creativo e una parata in kayak tra arte, attivismo e diritti della laguna. 🚣‍♀️ 🎨

Sabato 23 insieme al collettivo River Sisters creeremo costumi ispirati alla fauna e alla vita della laguna veneziana, da usare il giorno successivo – domenica 24 maggio – in una colorata parata galleggiante in kayak, che si svolgerà in coordinazione con la Vogalonga.

❗ Posti limitati, iscrizione obbligatoria tramite Eventbrite.

Chi si iscrive è tenuto/a a partecipare sia al workshop del 23 maggio che alla parata del 24 maggio.

La partecipazione alla parata sarà organizzata con il sostegno di Ocean Space, ma i/le partecipanti dovranno provvedere al pagamento della quota di noleggio del kayak, pari a 30 €.

🌊 “Voga! Woda!” è una parata sviluppata da River Sisters, in dialogo con Barena Bianca e l'associazione Soralai. L’evento fa parte del programma pubblico dell’iniziativa “Nature Speaks” e si inserisce nella campagna per i diritti della laguna portata avanti dal Policy Lab dell’iniziativa.

Nature Speaks. Ascoltare i Diritti della Natura a Venezia e in Europa è (2026) l'unità di ricerca di Ocean Space, curata da Pietro Consolandi e Amalia Rossi, coprodotta da TBA21–Academy e NICHE Centre for Environmental Humanities, Università Ca' Foscari Venezia in collaborazione con IDRA e Confluence of European Water Bodies.



This weekend, join us for “Voga! Woda!”, a creative workshop and kayak parade bringing together art, activism, and the rights of the lagoon. 🚣‍♀️ 🎨

On Saturday 23 May, together with the collective River Sisters, we will create costumes inspired by the fauna and life of the Venetian lagoon, to be worn the following day — Sunday 24 May — during a colorful floating kayak parade held in coordination with the Vogalonga.

❗ Limited spots available. Registration is required via Eventbrite (link in our bio).

Participants who register are expected to attend both the workshop on 23 May and the parade on 24 May.

Participation in the parade is organized with the support of Ocean Space, but participants are required to cover the kayak rental fee of €30.

🌊 “Voga! Woda!” is a parade developed by River Sisters in dialogue with Barena Bianca and the association Soralai. The event is part of the public program of the initiative “Nature Speaks” and contributes to the campaign for lagoon rights promoted by the Policy Lab of the initiative.

Nature Speaks. Listening for Rights of Nature in Venice and Europe is Ocean Space’s 2026 research unit, curated by Pietro Consolandi and Amalia Rossi, co-produced by TBA21–Academy and the NICHE Centre for Environmental Humanities at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, in collaboration with IDRA and Confluence of European Water Bodies.
