Today is the Festa della Repubblica.
I would say that Italy celebrates more achievements, its unification being among the most important, first as a Monarchy under the rule of ther Royal Casa of Savoia (1866 is generally given as the birth date of Italy, but the process took more years) and, starting 1947-1948, as the Repubblica Italiana. Among the many gifts Venice has been continously bringing to Italy is the Biennale di Venezia. Not only a melting pot of creative ideas, the Mostre la Biennale di Venezia organize every year from May to November are building long lasting professional relationships. Don't miss the opportunity to visit the 16th International Mostra of Architecture of the Biennale di Venezia, on show until the end of November 2018.

In less than two hours will start in Venice the 44th edition of VOGALONGA, a (mainly) non-competitive sportive event where any boat without engines can be registered and participate. In the photographs: the poster of this year edition (photograph by: Riccardo Roiter Rigoni), a photograph taken during VOGALONGA a couple of years ago in the Basin of San Marco, and a photograph from the first official VOGALONGA back in 1975. The one among friends in 1974 gave the sparkling idea to organized an international event every year.

Summertime. Wonderful. At noon, Piazza San Marco could get very crowded though. His exhibition SUPPORT, inaugurated in May 2017 at Ca' Sagredo Hotel on the occasion of the 57th International Art Biennial organised by the Biennale di Venezia, was prolonged several times after the Biennale ended in November the same year. You still have the time to see the exhibition until April 30th 2018.
Here are some pics of the sculpted hands coming out of Canal Grande to symbolically sustain Hotel Ca' Sagredo, photographs taken by or for Guests I accompanied in Venice in the past months. One Guest remarked the Artist "looks very much like the actor Anthony Quinn." Of course he does: Lorenzo Quinn (in the second pic) is the son of the actor famous for his parts in La Strada, Zorba (the Greek), Lawrence of Arabia.
