Did you know that the history of artisans can be traced all the way back to Ancient Egypt? They were carpenters, stone carvers, potters, sculptors, jewelers. Though these craftsmen were highly skilled and their work was valued, they themselves made part of the lower-middle class on the social pyramid only above slaves and farmers. The pharaohs and the elite treated them merely as common laborers, rarely praising the artisan for their mastery and skill.

But things will start to change in the Middle Ages

Did you know that during the Middle Ages, the term "artisan" was applied to those who made things or provided services and it did not apply to unskilled manual labourers?

It wasn't until the medieval period that the role of the artisan in society was specialized and appreciated. This was due to the formation of artisan guilds, which protected the rights and benefits of the producers and the consumer while also maintaining a standard of quality and workmanship

REDENTORE 2021 - VENETIAN TRADITION

On the day of the Redentore for the Venetians is a tradition to meet in the boats dressed for the occasion with streamers and lanterns. At sunset the boats, perfectly decorated with branches and colored balloons and well lit, begin to flow into the Basin of San Marco and the Giudecca Canal. On the boat you can dine on traditional Venetian dishes while waiting for the fireworks display, which starts at 23.30 and lasts until midnight.

Nella giornata del Redentore per i veneziani è tradizione ritrovarsi nella barche vestite a festa con festoni e lanterne. Al tramonto le imbarcazioni, perfettamente addobbate con frasche e palloncini colorati e ben illuminate, cominciano ad affluire nel Bacino di San Marco e nel Canale della Giudecca. In barca si cena a base di piatti della tradizione veneziana in attesa dello spettacolo pirotecnico, che inizia alle ore 23.30 e dura fino a mezzanotte inoltrata.

REDENTORE 2021 - NEWS

After the forced break of 2020, the Redentore returns this weekend! To admire the fires from the banks you will need to show your green pass or have taken a swab in the previous 48 hours. In addition, you will have to book your place, even for boats, online with a process that is trying to make it as intuitive as possible requiring, apparently, only name, surname and social security number.

According to what we read, if the aim is to attract tourists, priority in bookings will be given to residents of the town.

Dopo la pausa, forzata, del 2020 torna il Redentore questo weekend! Per ammirare i fuochi dalle rive bisognerà esibire il green pass o aver fatto un tampone nelle 48 ore precedenti. Inoltre bisognerà prenotare il proprio posto, anche per le imbarcazioni, online con un procedimento che si sta cercando di rendere il più intuitivo possibile richiedendo, a quanto pare, solo nome, cognome e codice fiscale.

A quanto si legge, se l’obiettivo è attirare turisti, verrà però data priorità nelle prenotazioni ai residenti del Comune.
