At the Pavilion of Zimbabwe, encounters happen not only between audiences and artworks but also between artists and the wider international art community.

We were pleased to welcome Carla and Pieter Schulting of the ‘Schulting art collection’ to the Pavilion, offering another opportunity for our participating artists to connect with an audience whose engagement with art extends across borders and cultures.

These encounters open conversations, create possibilities and place Zimbabwean artistic practices within a wider global discourse.

"Republic of Zimbabwe: There was an impressive representation of African countries this year. I was taken by the shows mounted by Zimbabwe. In Zimbabwe’s group show, “Second Nature,” the artists Eva Raath, Felix Shumba, Franklin Dzingal, Gideon Gomo, and Pardon Mapondera think about the impact of machine logic, technical mediation, and systems of control will have on our unconscious, habit-driven sense of being human. —Aruna D'Souza (Hyperallergic Editor.)"

“It reminds me of the 16th-century sculptures of Italy…”

One visitor encountered this work by Gideon Gomo at the Zimbabwe Pavilion and immediately made a connection to Bomarzo.

For her, the sculpture felt strong enough to evoke the monumental forms she remembers from Italy.
She stopped. She looked. She connected with the work.

And that is what we love about experiencing art: sometimes a work takes you somewhere unexpected.

We were honoured to welcome the Vice President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Hon. Kembo Mohadi, together with the Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Hon. Anselem Sanyatwe, to the Zimbabwe Pavilion at the 61st International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia.

Accompanied by Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Italy, Ambassador Chauke, they toured the pavilion, engaged with the artworks, and expressed appreciation for the creativity and talent of the artists representing Zimbabwe on this global stage.

We are grateful for their visit and their continued support of Zimbabwean arts and culture.
