🩸 New insights into embryonic blood development could open the way to targeted treatments for a rare childhood leukaemia.
Researchers at the HEVA Research Laboratory, led by Emanuele Azzoni , are investigating the earliest stages of white blood cell formation to better understand the origins of juvenile myelomonocytic leukaemia (JMML).
This rare and aggressive blood cancer mainly affects children under the age of three. By identifying the molecular mechanisms involved in its development, the research could help lay the foundations for earlier diagnosis and more targeted, less invasive treatments.
The project is supported by Worldwide Cancer Research with £240,000 in funding.
