ASSET – Accounting for Sustainability, Social and Environmental Transparency project is on the University of Vigo's news portal!

The article highlights the objectives of the project, the collaboration among the eight European partner universities, and the recent Transnational Project Meeting held in Ourense, where partners worked together to advance innovative teaching resources for sustainability accounting and ESG education.

📍 On May 14, the ASSET project was presented at the University of A Coruña (Spain) during the event “Business Strategy and Employability: Sessions with Professionals”.

During the session, Ernesto López-Valeiras introduced the objectives and activities of the ASSET project, with a special focus on the case studies developed within the project — particularly the one dedicated to Sustainable Management Accounting.

The event represented a valuable opportunity to discuss the role of sustainability, business strategy, and employability in higher education and professional practice.
We would like to sincerely thank Mayte Fernández and María Carmen Gago for their kind invitation and for organizing such an inspiring initiative.

From application to Linz: how to join the ISP 2026

Joining the ASSET ISP 2026 is a structured but straightforward process reserved for students enrolled at ASSET partner universities.
First, students should check the official call for applications published by their home university or international office. Each partner institution manages its own selection procedure.

Eligibility is typically based on enrollment in relevant study programs in accounting, business, or related fields. Academic performance and motivation may also be considered during selection.
Once selected, students receive guidance from their university coordinator regarding the next steps, including registration, preparatory information, and logistical details for the mobility.

The ISP 2026 will take place at Johannes Kepler University Linz (Austria) from 14 to 18 September 2026, bringing together students from across Europe for a shared academic experience.

Accounting meets sustainability: why ESG matters today

The accounting profession is undergoing a major transformation driven by sustainability and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) reporting requirements.

Companies are no longer evaluated only on financial performance but also on their environmental impact, social responsibility, and governance practices. This shift requires new skills and new ways of thinking in accounting and auditing.
The ASSET ISP addresses this evolution by integrating ESG topics into its academic content. Students learn how businesses can embrace sustainability, and how sustainability data is measured, verified, and communicated within organisations.

This includes understanding regulatory frameworks, reporting standards, and assurance practices related to non-financial information.
By connecting traditional accounting principles with sustainability challenges, the program prepares students for the future of the profession, where financial and non-financial reporting are increasingly interconnected.

While the ASSET ISP focuses on accounting and sustainability, students consistently develop a wide range of unexpected but highly valuable skills.

Another key skill is time management. The intensive format requires students to organize their work efficiently, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines.
