🌍 The ASSET ISP 2026 is officially underway!

On Sunday evening, we kicked off our Intensive Study Program with a warm Welcome Reception — a great opportunity to meet one another, start building connections and get into the international spirit of the week.

Monday began with an introduction to the ASSET – Accounting for Sustainability, Social and Environmental Transparency project, followed by country presentations. We had the chance to learn more about the participating universities, their countries and, most importantly, about the people behind this international community. 🤝

The day continued with a city tour of Linz, giving us the opportunity to discover some of the city’s most important sights and experience its unique atmosphere. 🇦🇹

And our “Photos & Emotions” wall is already getting fuller and fuller each day — a colourful collection of moments, encounters and memories that will grow throughout the week! 📸💬✨

We are looking forward to an inspiring and enriching experience, with plenty of learning, exchange, teamwork and unforgettable moments ahead.

Stay tuned for more impressions from the ASSET ISP 2026! 🚀

📍 On May 14, the ASSET project was presented at the University of A Coruña (Spain) during the event “Business Strategy and Employability: Sessions with Professionals”.

During the session, Ernesto López-Valeiras introduced the objectives and activities of the ASSET project, with a special focus on the case studies developed within the project — particularly the one dedicated to Sustainable Management Accounting.

The event represented a valuable opportunity to discuss the role of sustainability, business strategy, and employability in higher education and professional practice.
We would like to sincerely thank Mayte Fernández and María Carmen Gago for their kind invitation and for organizing such an inspiring initiative.

From application to Linz: how to join the ISP 2026

Joining the ASSET ISP 2026 is a structured but straightforward process reserved for students enrolled at ASSET partner universities.
First, students should check the official call for applications published by their home university or international office. Each partner institution manages its own selection procedure.

Eligibility is typically based on enrollment in relevant study programs in accounting, business, or related fields. Academic performance and motivation may also be considered during selection.
Once selected, students receive guidance from their university coordinator regarding the next steps, including registration, preparatory information, and logistical details for the mobility.

The ISP 2026 will take place at Johannes Kepler University Linz (Austria) from 14 to 18 September 2026, bringing together students from across Europe for a shared academic experience.

Accounting meets sustainability: why ESG matters today

The accounting profession is undergoing a major transformation driven by sustainability and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) reporting requirements.

Companies are no longer evaluated only on financial performance but also on their environmental impact, social responsibility, and governance practices. This shift requires new skills and new ways of thinking in accounting and auditing.
The ASSET ISP addresses this evolution by integrating ESG topics into its academic content. Students learn how businesses can embrace sustainability, and how sustainability data is measured, verified, and communicated within organisations.

This includes understanding regulatory frameworks, reporting standards, and assurance practices related to non-financial information.
By connecting traditional accounting principles with sustainability challenges, the program prepares students for the future of the profession, where financial and non-financial reporting are increasingly interconnected.

Skills you don’t expect to learn in an accounting program

While the ASSET ISP focuses on accounting and sustainability, students consistently develop a wide range of unexpected but highly valuable skills.
One of the most important is public speaking. Through presentations and group discussions, students learn to express complex ideas clearly and confidently in English.

Another key skill is time management. The intensive format requires students to organize their work efficiently, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines.
Problem-solving under pressure is also central to the experience. Case studies often simulate real-world scenarios where quick thinking and teamwork are essential.

Leadership skills naturally emerge as students rotate roles within their groups, learning how to guide discussions, support peers, and coordinate group output.
Finally, students develop resilience and adaptability, learning how to perform effectively in unfamiliar and fast-paced academic environments.

How international teamwork works in the ASSET ISP

International teamwork is one of the defining features of the ASSET ISP. Students from different European universities are placed in mixed groups, creating a diverse learning environment from the very beginning.
Each team brings together different academic backgrounds, national perspectives, and ways of thinking. This diversity is intentional and represents one of the main learning objectives of the program.

At the start, students often face challenges such as different communication styles, varying levels of English proficiency, and unfamiliar academic approaches. However, these challenges quickly become opportunities for growth.
Teams learn to coordinate tasks, divide responsibilities, and make decisions collectively under time constraints. This process strengthens not only technical understanding of accounting topics but also soft skills such as communication, negotiation, and adaptability.
By the end of the program, students typically report a strong sense of achievement and improved confidence in working in international environments.

Why short intensive programs matter in your academic journey

Short intensive programs like the ASSET ISP play an increasingly important role in modern higher education.
Unlike traditional semester-long courses, intensive programs concentrate learning into a short but highly focused period. This format encourages active participation and deep engagement with the subject matter.

Students are required to absorb information quickly, apply it immediately, and collaborate effectively under time constraints.
This learning model mirrors real-world professional environments, where deadlines are tight and teamwork is essential.
As a result, participants often report faster skill development, higher motivation, and stronger retention of knowledge compared to conventional classroom settings.
