It's our OPEN BOOK project!

I started this project for my thesis and now that the work has been completed, I'm proud of the great result we achieved in these last few months of work. This class has really worked hard on this e-book.

This e-book was created with the hope that we can reflect on the positive aspects of culture and the deep significance it has on many facets of our lives: from the food we eat, to the music we lsiten to and the festivities we celebrate.

It also brings us to some of its negative aspects like cultural appropriation, which affects ehnic minorities the most.

After a long hiatus (months), I'm back!
Same job, but now have an added extra: Ms Webmaster, at your service!
Along with the new side-job, I am still passionately finishing off my masters: we're finally down to the last month!

I've linked two e-books that my students created (a first year and a second year class) and thes results are great.

I'm amazed at the depth and detail some students will go into when researching events and topics which are far removed from a typical "English lesson".

The dedication they put into preparing presentations and slides for classwork on such diverse topics, shows that they are certainly better-equipped at understanding...and accepting, a changing world.

It really amazes me at how deeply some feel about the issues that affect society today.

Being their conversation teacher allows me so much more freedom to do things which are different, innovative and stimulating. Don't get me wrong, I love literature and I'm punctilious about grammar, but they're like constraints in my world and I willingly, and gladly, give them up to my colleagues to do.

My job is to get them talking: about real-life, about what's important, about their interests, values, skills....about anything really, and yes, even literature if it ties into what we're discovering.

It's not an improvised chat, though....it's a conversation that has more to do with critical thinking and voicing opionion than a ..."tell me about what you did last weekend...!" dialogue.

I've been away from my FB profile for a long, long time. Too long.

It's not because I had nothing to say, but I've certainly had lots to do!

Secret is now out: I'm currently enrolled in a Master's at the Politecnico di Milano in Technologies in Teaching and it's (almost) all-consuming. Plus I'm teaching at the same time. Hence the lack of posts.

Anyway, my current module is on Digital Imaging and now is the right time to introduce my second CERC interview after Silvia, the PhD activist.

The next CERC woman is Giada Frassetto.
She's a wonderful young photographer working in London, full of creativity and vision.
