As soon as I landed in Lampedusa I started hearing people speaking Sicilian.
Airport employees making jokes among each other.
People who wait for tourists right outside the airport.
People in the streets, in the shops, in the cafeterias, etc.

It’s no secret that small communities successfully managed to keep the language alive.
