One Handed Solutions for Everyone

So today the humidity is this high 72 in my condo. It’s been high humidity for a few days. I just want to sleep. Is that what humidity does to you?

Well here is my dehumidifier that will help out today. See the reading!

Now I have to remove the water container when it is half full. If full it’s too heavy for me to carry one handed.

See the hole on the lower right. That’s where I insert a fork end to pry the container away from the unit. My right arm is not strong enough to do it. But I found a solution! Once I pry it back, I can grasp the handle and carry the water to the toilet. No way I can lift it in the sink. Once cleared of water I return it and start the unit all over again.

Do you use a humidifier? How do you manage?

So many packages these days have Velcro closings or sliders. I cut them off m, fold and place a clip on them instead. Both Velcro and sliders require one end stabilized while you slide or open the closure. I can’t stabilize with with my polio hand. Not enough strength.

Thank them!

Indigenous Peoples protect some of the most biodiverse lands on Earth.

Yet they are still too often excluded from decisions that affect those lands, even as their communities face growing pressure from deforestation, pollution, mining, development and climate change.

For generations, Indigenous knowledge has helped communities understand forests, rivers, wildlife, seasons and the relationships that keep ecosystems healthy.

That knowledge is not simply part of the past.

It is increasingly recognized as an important part of protecting biodiversity and responding to the climate crisis.

But conservation cannot succeed by using Indigenous knowledge while ignoring Indigenous rights.

Communities must have a meaningful voice in decisions about the lands and waters they have cared for across generations.

Protecting nature and respecting Indigenous Peoples are not separate goals.

In many places, they are deeply connected.

Today, August 9, is the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples.

A reminder that protecting the planet also means listening to the people who have protected many of its landscapes for generations.

Monday Mindset

Life is here right now. Not tomorrow, not next week, not next month and not next year.

Don’t close off what you can and cannot do one-handed. Wake up your brain by getting into nature and just be at peace with the moment. Your negative thoughts are mind pests! Only you can get rid of them.

This was my mindful moment the other day. It help me reaffirm a decision. These swans took advantage of the rainfall the night before that brought food. The opportunity and the willingness came together.
