Our Marine Ecology students traded their desks for wetsuits and snorkels! ⁠

As part of their summer program, they dove straight into the crystal-clear waters of Plemmirio, our incredible open-air field laboratory. This wasn't just a regular swim. Guided by expert researchers, the cohort conducted a snorkeling census to monitor fish, benthic species, and the impacts of climate change on Mediterranean biodiversity. ⁠

Cultural Dialogue & History in our Garden ⁠
⁠
We were incredibly honoured to host the cultural event "1946–2026: 80 Anni dal Voto alle Donne" ("1946–2026: 80 Years of Women's Suffrage") in partnership with La Brigata Rosa. It was a truly inspiring afternoon dedicated to celebrating 80 years of women's right to vote in Italy, with a special focus on the stories and voices of Sicilian women in politics and society.⁠

Our courtyard transformed into an open-air forum where academics, local organisations, and community members came together to reflect on historical milestones and future steps toward equality.⁠

This week, Syracuse Academy had the privilege of participating in the Syracuse leg of the "Coastal Diplomacy" tour. We were hosted aboard the Boardwalk yacht by U.S. Ambassador to Italy Tilman J. Fertitta, and Consul General Terence Flynn.⁠
⁠
We had a productive conversation with the Ambassador about our ongoing work in international education. We discussed our study abroad initiatives for American students and highlighted our active academic collaborations.⁠

We look forward to continuing our mission of building strong academic and cultural bridges between the United States and the Mediterranean.⁠

We loved hosting the MIT-UNICT Summer School 2026 (in collaboration with Sapienza Università di Roma). At Syracuse Academy, we love supporting top institutions studying sustainability by connecting academic work with real-world site visits! 🌱⁠
