Through our Growing Together initiative, Sant’Anna Institute students joined children participating in the summer camp program at a local elementary school, Istituto Santa Maria delle Grazie, for a day of games, storytelling, creative workshops, and English-language activities.

These experiences go beyond language learning. They build empathy, foster intercultural understanding, and strengthen the connection between our students and the Sorrento community.

Because at Sant’Anna Institute, education is about more than what happens in the classroom.

The dolce vita is best understood by experiencing it firsthand, and what better place to do so than the island of Capri?

Students in the Communication, Culture, & Amalfi Coast course, taught by faculty member Dr. Annmarie Willette, explored the island’s history, culture, and unique identity while discovering one of southern Italy’s most iconic destinations.

By connecting course concepts with direct experience, visits like these encourage cultural immersion, exploration, and experiential learning beyond the classroom.

Sant’Anna Institute welcomed a delegation of high school students from Dana Hills High School in Dana Point, California, as part of the international exchange program between City of Dana Point - Government and Comune di Sorrento through their sister-city agreement.

As part of their cultural immersion experience, students participated in Sant’Anna Institute’s Italian Survival class, developing practical language skills while exploring Italian culture and everyday communication.

During their stay, students will live with host families, experience daily life in Sorrento, and strengthen the long-standing relationship between the two communities. The exchange program is made possible through the collaboration of the Rotary Club Sorrento and the Monarch Beach Sunrise Rotary Club

Our students participated in the Premio Amarene event at the Equestrian Rehabilitation Center (CRE), joining members of the local community for the harvest of amarene, a traditional sour cherry variety native to the Sorrento Peninsula. 🌿🍒

Through a hands-on workshop, students also explored how the cherries are transformed into preserves, gaining insight into local traditions and food production practices.

A meaningful service-learning experience that brought together community engagement, cultural exchange, and experiential learning.

The Sorrento Peninsula offers such unique settings for learning beyond the classroom 🌊🇮🇹🤩

During a visit to Ieranto Bay, a protected nature reserve on the Sorrento Peninsula, students in Marine Biology and Conservation courses explored the area’s natural landscapes and ecosystems while gaining a deeper understanding of the region’s environmental and cultural significance.

By connecting course concepts with direct observation, experiences like these encourage reflection, exploration, and experiential learning.
