On the occasion of the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, promoted by the United Nations and set for June 17th each year, the Università degli Studi di Sassari will host important initiatives and events for an entire week (17-20 June), in collaboration with numerous international partners.
🎯 The events aimed at shedding light on this serious global issue and highlighting new solutions and perspectives for a real and effective change of direction.
💠 NATMed Prima Project's 'Arborea farming district' Italian case study will be presented on June 18th in an on-line event "Our Water, our legacy: current solutions for future generations".
The data reported by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification are alarming, from the continuous annual loss of fertile land and trees, to the risks faced by populations who derive their livelihoods from almost entirely arid lands, to the still massive use of practices considered unsustainable: governments and scientists must act in close synergy to implement incisive and decisive actions that can counter or at least slow down this phenomenon, promoting good practices and alternative solutions.
⛲ Each day will be dedicated to a specific theme, and the proposed initiatives will have a broad scope to reach and involve as much of the public as possible.
