It is time to welcome another amazing workshop speaker : Rony Abecidan !
He is a PhD student in AI and Cybersecurity at Centrale Lille Institute since 2021. His research focuses on "Developing robust strategies for detecting image manipulation", a crucial challenge in information security. In addition to his academic work, he hosts the podcast "Thesis? Antithesis? Synthesis!" which aims to make the PhD journey in France more accessible to the public.
"Throughout their doctoral journey, PhD students use a variety of tools to support their research activities, including project management, literature review, presentation of findings, and networking. With so many tools available, it can be challenging to identify and select the most relevant ones for research purposes. 🥳 Come and meet a new awesome speaker ! 🥳

Christelle Baunez is a Director of Research at CNRS, and leader of the team ‘Cognition and Physiopathology in the Basal Ganglia’ (CoPhyBaG) at the Institut de Neurosciences de la Timone (INT) in Marseille. ☀️⚽️

She started to be interested in the subthalamic nucleus (STN) as a possible target for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease during her PhD thesis in Marseille on interactions between glutamate and dopamine within the basal ganglia. 

During her post-doc at Cambridge University (UK), she assessed the involvement of the STN in non-motor functions. She revealed STN involvement in attention and control of inhibition.

🔊 It is a pleasure to introduce you all to Romain Ligneul 🔊

Romain Ligneul is a researcher at the Lyon Neuroscience Research Center (CRNL) and the principal investigator of the ERC-funded CRACK-5HT project.
This project seeks to unravel the primary computational functions of serotonin signaling in the mammalian brain, using a mix of computational systems, and cognitive neuroscience methods. 🧠💻
He has a keen interest in causal inference and controllability estimation models, exploring their implications for learning, decision-making, and executive control in both mice and humans.

📢 New speaker unlocked 📢

Meet Friederike Range, from the Domestication Lab in Vienna !
She is an expert in animal behaviour and cognition. In recent years, she has focused on studying different aspects of cooperation in the context of domestication by comparing similarly raised and kept wolves and dogs. 🐺🐶
Domestication is thought to have changed animals’ temperament allowing for the emergence of advanced cognitive abilities. Instead, the research of her group does not support a dramatically changed temperament or better cognitive skills in dogs compared to wolves, but rather that the socio-ecological niche of dogs and wolves contributed to shaping dog’s behaviour and cognition.
In recent years, fieldwork has caught up again and together with her team she expanded her research to free-ranging populations of wolves.

Meet João Peça, group leader at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology, Assistant Professor at the University of Coimbra and pioneering optogenetics researcher.

From creating the first channel rhodopsin-2 transgenic mice at Duke to uncovering autism mechanisms at MIT, his work bridges genetic and environmental factors in neuropsychiatric disorders.
With publications in top journals and prestigious awards like the Pfizer Prize, João's cutting-edge research uses a combination of molecular genetics, optogenetics and electrophysiological approaches using animal models and human brain organoids. 🧠🔬

Stories from ESCBC2022 backstages ✨:

Since March, when we started organizing this conference, we have been meeting all Wednesday’s evenings to plan, arrange and discuss all the little stuff that are hidden behind such an event.

We spent in our headqurter (the “Acquario” 🐠🐟🐡) so many (sometimes “happy”) hours, evenings and occasionally dinners!

Well… Yesterday we had our last meeting, we are ready to welcome you!! It’s so exciting to be sooooo close to the conference! 🤩🤩

We really can’t wait to have you here! See you REALLY soon, 6 days to go! 🥳
