📄 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐀𝐈-𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐀𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬

Our study examined how Malaysian media students use ChatGPT for content development and what they perceive as its cognitive and creative benefits.

Some key findings:
💡 Students primarily use ChatGPT for brainstorming, organising ideas, and overcoming writer's block, rather than simply generating complete content.
⚡ Most students perceived that GenAI improves efficiency, helping them complete content development tasks in less time.
🎨 Students reported improvements in content quality and perceived creative support, particularly during the early stages of content development.
⚠️ Despite these benefits, students remained cautious about AI accuracy, overreliance, reduced independent thinking, and originality.
🤝 The study suggests that GenAI is most educationally valuable when students critically evaluate, adapt, and refine AI-generated outputs while maintaining human judgement and creative agency.

The key takeaway is clear: Generative AI is most valuable when it supports—not replaces—human creativity and critical thinking.

What is the role of an academic❓️

Beyond teaching, preparing lessons, marking assignments and examinations, and guiding students through consultations, academics are also expected to contribute to knowledge through research and publications📚 Writing and publishing papers require tremendous commitment, collaboration, and perseverance🪔

I would like to express my appreciation to the Faculty of Education, Open University Malaysia for organising the 🌈“Crafting an Article, Drafting an Abstract: A Guided Practical Workshop.”

It was truly a fruitful and productive session that brought academics together with a shared focus on academic writing and publication🚀. I’m grateful to have spent the day collaborating with my publication mates, and together, we successfully prepared 3 articles☘️.

Workshops like this not only strengthen our writing skills but also remind us of the importance of teamwork, continuous learning, and scholarly contribution🤝
