A unique conversation with Isabelle Sciamma and Paolo Ferrarini "Discovering and telling the new narrative, alternative paths in fashion publishing.”

November 29th Paolo Ferrarini, Lecturer, Author and Member of our Communication Scientific Committee together with Isabelle Sciamma, Author Louis Vuitton City Guide - Rome, Brand Developer Chez Dede and Fashion Editor Agence France-Presse, together participated in an interesting a talk on our Rome campus.

Starting from her degree in journalism up to her work for the Louis Vuitton City Guide and her advisory projects, Isabelle talked about how the paths in fashion publishing are varied and often quite surprising. Isabelle arrived in Rome ten years ago and started working in a gallery of contemporary art. There she had the chance to meet eclectic people that help her shaped her career and her knowledge of the eternal city and its inhabitants.
She found solidarity and help inside this world that made her feel in love even more with Rome starting to walk around to find the perfect spots to shop, eat, sleep, and relax! So, when the opportunity to write for Louis Vuitton City Guide presented itself, she was more than delighted to translate her favourite activity in work.
As Isabelle said,“ I like to talk about the city through the experiences of the creatives that live in it to translate it to the public in the most loyal way possible”.

Thank you, Isabelle, for sharing your incredible insights and your work with our students.
We really hope to see you again soon in Accademia.♥️

MA | DESIGN MIXOLOGY - CREATING NARRATIVES FROM THE ART OF KIMONO TO KEN SCOTT AND BEYOND | Industry Project | In partnership with

Our MA Fabrics Innovation Design students finally presented their projects in collaboration with Mantero!
The objective of their work was to make a journey, in time and space but towards a future destination. They mixed elements and took inspiration from what they had the opportunity to saw during the company’s headquarter visit, such as one of the world’s richest textile archives, the extraordinary collection of 800 Kimonos and the Ken Scott Foundation’s magnificent exclusive archive.
The two worlds of Japan sophisticated kimono’s and Ken Scott’s creative explosion of the 60s and 70s, with their exceptional creativity, sense of color and interpretation of one’s time and place, allowed our young designers to develop the narrative that led to the definition of their personal and new aesthetic.

Take a look at their beautiful projects! So proud of them♥️

Thank you to Lucia Mantero, Franco Mantero and to all the Mantero Team for this incredible chance!
And a huge thank you also to Marco Mastroianni, Responsible Creation Matures Louis Vuitton, for following all the way the work of our students♥️

MA ALTA MODA, FASHION DESIGN FASHION SHOW | ANAMORPHICON, 2022 | BY MANAV SRIPRAKASH

This collection references anamorphic Tudor era portraiture while drawing parallels to the multi-dimensional works of Italian futurist Bruno Munari, specifically, his expressions in kinetic art, movement and visual distortion.
Artists’ experimentation with optics during the Renaissance advanced through perspective techniques that gave a distorted image of the subject represented in a picture when seen from specific vantage points.
Examining anamorphic works by Tudor court painters such as Hans Holbein provided a reference point for silhouette and for exploring the graphic potential of visual distortion.
In 1970 Munari published his visual case studies on shapes: Circle, Square, and, a decade later, Triangle in which he hypothesized that our natural environment may be simplified into these fundamental geometries. Employing
Munari’s visual case studies Manav soughts to develop analog lenticular prints that work on a similar fundamental grid structure of line and shape, utilizing layering and transparency, which are intrinsic to the concept.
Manav has juxtaposed and subverted common elements of Tudor era portraiture, such as the Tudor rose, as well as traditional elements of garment construction such as slashing and pinking, representing them as two-dimensional prints in movement.
Through these analog lenticular print developments I am interested in examining the “duration of an image”. This collection thus explores the idea of the “wardrobe” as a kinetic medium to showcase the coexistence of organic and mechanical motion.

, and supported Manav in the development of the collection.

MA ALTA MODA, FASHION DESIGN FASHION SHOW | LA SEU | BY JOSÉ GALLEGO BAVIERA

La Seu it’s about rediscovering the past and resignifying the images that define our culture to move towards the future with tradition and innovation
La Seu comes from the mix of early Spanish Renaissance and late contemporary art. Being the Angels “frescos” in Valencia’s cathedral and the ironic view of John Baldessari. What creates a new language re- signifying iconic elements to build a new future grounded in tradition.
The collection is a combination of modern and historic elements that mixed in an anachronistic way create a new identity, resetting the patrimony, honouring culture and creating new icons that coexist in today’s global society.
The colours used, come both from the colourful world of the early Renaissance, late middle ages and
the modern perspective of John Baldessari. Who’s art is a joyful reinterpretation of media and cinema, constantly resignifying and trying to understand the meaning of images and their impact on mass culture. Being this the main guide in creating the print developed with the actual angels of the dome of the cathedral, the print interacts throughout the collection with an array of clashing colour combinations and layering. Referencing the actual history of the paintings, sometimes covered with later art constructions which built a complex heritage adding to the richness of the architectural complex of La Catedral de Valencia.
So with a profound analysis of antique sewing techniques and a modern vision of garments the collection proposes an array of colourful designs that homage the craft and bring to the forefront the soul of high fashion, the intimacy of its processes.

supported José in the development of the collection.

MA ALTA MODA, FASHION DESIGN FASHION SHOW | Δρασμός | BY CAROLINA ZECCHINO

The imaginary world and the real world fit together perfectly in a single vision within the movie “Pan’s Labyrinth” by Guillermo del Toro, who managed to find a meeting point between two dimensions that are apparently so distant. The movie, set in Franco’s Spain in the 1940s, tells the story of a little girl who discovers to belong to another world and to reach it she will have to face various tests studded with fantastic elements.
The atmosphere that reigns throughout the film is therefore linked to the otherworldly dimension, but at the same time there are constant references to the historical period and the military context in which it is set. From this setting Carolina got the ideas for the embroideries, which evoke with their textures and colors the fantastic world that the girl discovers during the movie; moreover, the motif of the intertwining of the embroideries recalls the intricate places in which the protagonist finds herself having to face the various challenges that arise before her. The rigor of the uniforms and the dark colors were adapted and modeled in order to give the various garments an imprint that could render the severity of military world.
The various garments are enriched by continuous and extravagant games of volumes that recall that oneiric setting that acts as a common thread to all the garments.

and supported Carolina in the development of the collection.
