APRIL 2016 UPDATE
Hey guys,
We've got some exciting stuff in the works for the spring and summer! Here's a little preview:
UPCOMING RELEASES
+++A Conversation with Peter Harris+++
“I think naivete was my best weapon early in life.”
Peter is a Toronto-based artist currently working on an ongoing series of urban landscape paintings. In our interview we discussed (among other things) his influences and method of working, the artistic profession, and the idea of the Canadian landscape.
+++Vapor Baby+++
“It was drizzly and dark outside, as is usual at that time of year. Inside, the amber fire cast shadows between the exposed floor joists above; the whole place was only about three-quarters finished, which is the way all cabins should stay.”
This book documents and reflects on an experimental installation on Cobble Hill Mountain, BC.

COLLABORATIONS: 4b modernism work!
A lot of us were very impassioned by our modernism essays and some really great work was produced. It would be a shame for some of it to go unseen or unread; therefore, we’re proposing collaborations to take that great work one step further.
If you’re interested in developing and publishing your modernism essay, or turning it into a crazy project, let us know. Either email us at [email protected] or contact Alex and Stephane directly.
The Canadian Academy in Rome is now also registered as a Canadian publisher. Our last release was an interview with the Italian architecture firm 2A+P/A. We’re currently working on a book of photos about emerging cities, a critical-art analysis of a west coast cabin, and research on the Italian avant-garde of the 60s and 70s.

EVOLVING CANADIAN CULTURE THROUGH GLOBAL DISCOURSE
For too long, Canada’s rich cultural diversity has existed largely in isolation from the ongoing global conversation.
In the 21st century we need our institutions to strengthen international dialogue, sharing Canadian ideas abroad. Far from diluting our unique worldview, a generous exchange can deepen our own identity and provide us with new opportunities.
An evolving and diverse culture isn’t a side-effect of a flourishing society; it is integral to a resilient and progressive economy.
Rather than debating which disciplines to prioritize over others, let’s evaluate each cultural project. By placing funding in domains that encourage global discourse we can enrich Canada and the world.

Hey guys! We’ve been silent for a while now, but that’s because we’ve been hard at work getting some great things ready for you.
First big news item is that we are now an official not-for-profit corporation. We’ve also been accepted as a Canadian publisher, so we can now request ISBNs and legally publish our own material.
Our first publication, soon to be released, is an expanded interview with the Italian architecture firm 2A+P/A. The idea behind this project is to give more meaning and context to the content of the discussion. Interviews often contain interesting points that get lost in a long stream of dialogue; our approach is to periodically break off from the interview to expand upon or clarify an idea. The result is what we call an “expanded interview”, which includes images, drawings, and additional text.
This publication will be available soon, both digitally and in print. Keep an eye out!

The Canadian Academy in Rome is hosting online the University of Waterloo's School of Architecture publication "Wall Works". This book looks at student work done during a semester in Rome on the subject of the Aurelian Wall. Projects are organized in typologies to elucidate the differing urban conditions possible with something as urbanistically fundamental as a wall.
