To our students, to our alumni, to our prospective students:
As a department, we hope to empower students to be, and to encourage scholarship that is, politically aware, ethically proficient, and conscious of injustice.
In this regard, we as faculty of the JCU Communications and Media Studies department, affirm the rights of women to make decisions about their own bodies and lives. We are losing rights, won through social struggles, that appeared to be untouchable and that are now under attack and being questioned. We amplify the voices of, and add our voices to, the fight for sovereignty of women in Iran, in India, in the USA, in Italy, and in every other nation where women are systematically oppressed.
We will continue to work in solidarity with our extended JCU community, for a university space that not only provides a place of safety for all, but that actively seeks to end misogyny and patriarchal domination.

We want to let you know about our mini-summer masterclass that features our own Fede Gianni co-teaching with Hollywood director, writer and producer Steve Pink (Grosse Pointe Blank, High Fidelity, Hot Tub Time Machine). This is a really great opportunity for our students to have a production bootcamp experience with lots of hands-on activities to write, direct and produce during a three-week intensive.

We wanted to share with you the impressive work of students from the DMA 328 Promotional Video class.
Students had to produce a 50'' max promo for CINEMAX (a premium cinema channel with a prevalent male target), promoting a STUNT (theme oriented programming strategy) with four female action films (Alien 4 / The Hunger Games / Star wars 7 / Revenge). When creating a stunt, the theme (women kicking ass) is more important than the films. They also had to find a catchy title and write a pitch.
Professor Chloe Barreau supervised the work as a creative director, making them re-do the work many times until it fit for going on-air.

Q***r Dada is a live performance of writers from across nations, genders and the intersections that make up the human species. It is a trans-space inhabited by artists reaching out from beyond cultural boundaries, gender binaries and the violence of the anthropocene. In defiance against datafication and the quantification of the self, we celebrate queerness and the fluidity of dada.
