Does victory really end war?
On March 17, Mirko Palestrino presents Military Victory Beyond the Battlefield, exploring how conflicts are concluded through symbolic and political “victory practices.”
The book argues that conflicts are brought to an end not only through battlefield success but through a series of political, cultural, and symbolic “victory practices” that shape perceptions of temporal closure. By analysing military tattoos, war memorials, doctrine manuals, history textbooks, and video games, the study reveals a plurality of wartimes and casts into doubt the assumption that victory inevitably concludes war.
