Duquesne University Italian Campus in Rome, Italy. The Fall 2004 semester saw the inauguration of our new campus, a more permanent home in the eternal city.

Welcome to the Duquesne University Italian Campus, in cooperation with the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth. The history of the Italian Campus program begins with the Spring 2001 semester, where the Italian Campus was housed at the Villa Santa Cecilia in the suburb of Vitinia. During these past years, the Italian Campus program has grown into an important academic and life expanding study abroad program for students of Duquesne University's home campus in Pittsburgh, PA. Rome is truly the eternal city! From the omnipresent ruins of the powerful Rome that set the standard for much of the world in ancient days, to the emblems such as the Vatican, that continue to set standards in the 21st century. To live in Rome is to live its history and the story of a progressive people. Although you will have plenty of time for personal travel to other places in Italy and Europe while here, a student of Duquesne University Italian campus soon calls home, the eternal city of Rome

We were SO excited to welcome 41 students from the IIS Einstein–Bachelet schools to campus today! 🇮🇹🇺🇸

Students partnered up for an intercultural interview, then spent the morning getting to know one another through games, conversation, and lots of laughs. We played American football 🏈 soccer ⚽, and co****le, and learned how to play the Italian card games Scopa and Briscola 🃏, and so much more!

It was such a fun celebration of friendship, culture, and connection. 💙 We feel incredibly lucky to have such wonderful neighbors—and now, so many new friends—right here near campus! 🥰🌍 Grazie ragazzi!

At our campus wine tasting, they explored the famous 5 S’s of wine tasting, learned how to pair wine with food, and discovered the significance of wine throughout the Bible and its influence on Italian art and culture.

First Travel Weekend: Florence Edition! 🇮🇹

What better way to begin the semester than with a weekend exploring one of Italy’s most beautiful cities? From wandering through Florence’s historic streets and admiring its incredible architecture to sharing delicious meals and making new memories together, it was a wonderful first adventure.

🎉 Congratulations to Dr. Fabio Benincasa, who has been teaching with Duquesne University in Rome since 2008, for the publication of “La città e il carcere” (EN: The City and The Prison), recently published by Bordeaux Edizioni in the RIF Lezioni series.

Dr. Benincasa teaches Italian Language, Eternal City: Myth of Rome Through the Centuries, Modern Art in Rome, and Italy Through Italian Film, bringing his deep knowledge of Rome, Italian culture, and the arts to generations of students.

📖 La città e il carcere explores the complex relationship between the contemporary city and the prison, considering the prison as a physical and social periphery of the city and raising important questions about space, marginality, citizenship, inclusion, and confinement.

Bringing together perspectives from urban planning, philosophy, sociology, and law, the volume examines how prisons shape — and are shaped by — the urban and social environments around them.

The volume is particularly distinctive in that all of the essays are authored by women scholars, bringing diverse perspectives to the relationship between the city and the prison.
