The city of Rome, with its cultural resources and rich history, provides an infinite source of learning opportunities for students from all over the world. Students have the possibility to experience its history, evolution, and culture in an urban context with over two thousand years of development. The Rome Center offers an educational experience that replaces the traditional classroom with a didactic hands-on approach. With the university being located in the heart of the city, students have access to an amazing environment to complete their studies. Their academic, cultural, and personal growth are the goals of our institution.

The Fall Design Lecture Series is back! 🏛️✨

For the first lecture of the semester, we welcomed architect Paolo Desideri for “Creativity versus Extravagance. Architects use forms to solve problems.”

Students were invited to reflect on creativity as a tool for design and problem-solving, exploring how architectural form can respond to real needs rather than simply pursue the extraordinary.

A special thank you to Paolo Desideri for sharing his experience and perspective with our Architecture and Interior Design students, and to Francesca Riccardo, Rome Center Architecture faculty, for coordinating the Design Lecture Series.

A look back at Data Privacy & Ethics this summer at the Rome Center 📚✨

Led by faculty Rumi Rios, the course brought students into conversation with professionals from the luxury and venture capital sectors, exploring how privacy, ethics, compliance, and responsible business practices take shape beyond the classroom.

A special thank you to our guest speakers Cristiana Cappetta (FENDI), Claudia Renzi (BVLGARI), and Melissa Morano Aurigemma (Exceptional Capital) for sharing their expertise, professional experiences, and perspectives with our students.

One more experience from Summer 2026 that connected academic learning with the professional world. 🌍

The first Architecture Workshop of the semester brought together students from all studio sections at the University of Arkansas Rome Center!

These mini thematic workshops feature 20-minute lessons led in turn by Architecture Studio faculty, followed by an exercise that students develop in their own classrooms and submit that day or by the end of the week. Open to all Architecture sections, the sessions encourage experimentation and exchange across the program.

This semester’s topics include cartography, master planning, diagrams in concept development, and principles for designing museums and green spaces.

Mondays are for the Rome Center Club! 🎲🛍️🍕

Every Monday, our Student Life team invites students to join free activities designed to explore Rome, try something new, and spend time together outside the classroom.

This week, students chose between: Games Night at the Rome Center with Chris, complete with board games and plenty of snacks 🎲, or a thrifting adventure through Monti with Claudia, searching for vintage finds in one of Rome’s coolest neighborhoods.

And because no Rome adventure is complete without food, the Monti crew wrapped up the evening with a taste of Roman classics—pizza and supplì in Piazza della Madonna dei Monti. 🇮🇹

Different plans, same goal: getting together, discovering the city, and making Mondays a little more fun. ✨

Alumni Spotlight ✨

When Isabella Thompson arrived in Rome in the summer of 2024, she hoped to strengthen her Italian and immerse herself in the local culture.

What she found was an experience that changed the course of her future.

Through an independent study with Rome Center’s Faculty of Italian, Barbara Spaccini and an internship with Hummustown Rome, Isabella discovered the confidence to adapt to new environments, embrace new challenges, and pursue opportunities she hadn't imagined before.

Today, after graduating with degrees in Political Science, International Studies, and Italian, she's beginning a Master's in Global Studies at Lund University in Sweden. She also recently returned to the Rome Center—not as a student, but as a presenter at the AATI Conference, where she shared her undergraduate research on The Decameron with scholars from across the United States.

"Studying abroad gave me the courage to pursue a master's degree abroad and prepared me for the challenges I might face."

✨ We can't wait to see where the Rome experience takes our alumni next.

🏔️ From mountain peaks to historic gardens.

Landscape Architecture Summer 2026 students experienced two remarkable landscapes in Northern Italy—from the alpine scenery of Monte Altissimo to the beautifully restored Parco Guerrieri Gonzaga.

After taking in breathtaking views of Lake Garda and the Brenta Dolomites, the group explored a historic garden where centuries of design and conservation continue to shape the landscape today.

Experiencing both wild and designed landscapes in the same day offered a powerful reminder of the many ways people interact with—and shape—the environment around them.

For Marketing students, this study trip was an opportunity to experience the stories behind some of Italy's most iconic destinations.

Walking through the ancient streets of Pompeii, exploring the magnificence of the Royal Palace of Caserta, and discovering the energy of Naples, students gained a deeper appreciation for how history, culture, and identity shape the way places are experienced and remembered.

Learning doesn't just happen in the classroom—it happens by immersing yourself in the places that inspire it.

Landscape Architecture Summer 2026 students visited MondoMelinda in Val di Non, Trentino, in Northern Italy, where they explored one of Italy's largest apple-growing cooperatives.

The highlight? Descending into the incredible celle ipogee—underground chambers carved into the Dolomite mountains, where apples are naturally stored using the mountain's cool temperatures to reduce energy consumption.

A fascinating look at how sustainability, agriculture, and landscape come together to create innovative solutions rooted in place.

Interior Design students recently traveled to Orvieto and Florence, exploring some of Italy's most celebrated artistic and cultural landmarks.

From standing before Michelangelo's David at the Galleria dell'Accademia to visiting the Museo di San Marco, where they saw the historic chair that inspired the name of the iconic Savonarola chair, students connected classroom concepts with the places and stories behind them.

Every destination offered a new perspective on how art, history, and design continue to influence the spaces we create today.

Communication students at the UARK Rome Center, led by Veronica Mobley, recently visited Roma Tre Radio, the official radio station of Università Roma Tre, where they explored the world of live broadcasting, content creation, and digital media.

From meeting the student team behind the station to stepping behind the microphone themselves, our students experienced firsthand what it takes to bring a radio program to life.
