🕯️ Nella notte tra il 15 e il 16 luglio 1823 un devastante incendio colpì la Basilica di San Paolo fuori le Mura, aprendo uno dei grandi dibattiti culturali, artistici e religiosi dell’Ottocento: ricostruire il passato? reinventarlo? custodirlo?

🏛️ Il volume - ricco di materiali fotografici inediti - ripercorre quella vicenda cruciale, mostrando come la ricostruzione della Basilica sia diventata una riflessione più ampia sul rapporto tra antico e moderno, memoria e futuro, tradizione e cambiamento.

Founded in 𝟏𝟔𝟑𝟎 by the Belgian Jesuit 𝐉𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐁𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝, the 𝐁𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲 has been a global reference point for hagiographic research for nearly four centuries. Its monumental Acta Sanctorum and its archives—recently recognized by 𝐔𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐂𝐎'𝐬 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫—have shaped the scholarly study of the lives of the saints and their enduring influence on Christian history and culture.

🤝 The Pontifical Gregorian University is pleased to announce the planned integration of the 𝐁𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲 into its academic structure, following the initiative of the Superior General of the Society of Jesus, 𝐑𝐞𝐯. 𝐅𝐫 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐨 𝐒𝐨𝐬𝐚 𝐒𝐉.

📖 This collaboration will open new opportunities for teaching, research, seminars, internships, and specialized formation in hagiography, Church history, spirituality, and Eastern Christianity.

🌍 While maintaining its historic headquarters in Brussels, the Bollandist Society is set to become 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲, alongside the Collegium Maximum, the Pontifical Biblical Institute, and the Pontifical Oriental Institute.

Fondata nel 𝟏𝟔𝟑𝟎 dal gesuita belga 𝐉𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐁𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝, la 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐚̀ 𝐝𝐞𝐢 𝐁𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢 rappresenta da quasi quattro secoli un punto di riferimento internazionale per gli studi agiografici. I suoi monumentali Acta Sanctorum e i suoi archivi — recentemente inseriti nel registro 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐥'𝐔𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐂𝐎 — hanno contribuito in modo decisivo alla ricerca sulla vita dei santi e sulla loro influenza nella storia e nella cultura cristiana.

🌍 Pur mantenendo la propria storica sede a Bruxelles, la Società dei Bollandisti è destinata a diventare la 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐚 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐚, accanto al Collegium Maximum, al Pontificio Istituto Biblico e al Pontificio Istituto Orientale.
