Congratulations to Gian Luca Farinelli, new Artistic Director of the David di Donatello Awards! 🎬

The appointment was approved on August 5, 2026 by the Foundation’s Board of Directors, chaired by Silvia Calandrelli. Farinelli, 63, from Bologna, has spent thirty years leading the Cineteca di Bologna and is regarded as one of the world’s leading experts in film restoration. He is also the founder of the international festival “Il Cinema Ritrovato” and previously chaired the Fondazione Cinema per Roma from 2022 to 2024. Commenting on the news, Farinelli said he felt “particularly proud” of the trust placed in him and ready to take on the role “with a sense of responsibility but also with enthusiasm.” A résumé that speaks for itself and sets the tone for this new chapter of the Academy, which also welcomes Martin Scorsese as honorary president.
