This week we look at the element of water from St Francis’ ‘’Canticle of the Creatures’, Today we explored the ‘aquatic’ paintings of Claude Monet, in the morning creating watercolour versions of our favourite paintings, and in the afternoon working as a group to create a large mural of his ‘Waterlilies’ using poster paint and collage

For the final day dedicated to Earth from St Francis’ ‘Canticle of Creation’, the children used clay and natural objects to create 3D sculptures. They had the freedom to use any of the paintings studied this week as inspiration: Botticelli’s ‘Primavera’, the 4 Polish and French realist paintings, and ‘St Francis presents the Wolf to the inhabitants of Gubbio’; and all interpreted these in their own way, resulting in Cupids, flowers, oranges, wolves and cows, bow and arrows, soldiers and St Francis, Flora and Zephyrus.

Classe Terza: Concludiamo il nostro viaggio in Egitto utilizzando le conoscenze, le tecniche e i materiali scoperti quest'anno!

Today the children learned to create their own looms out of cardboard and string. Then, using a painting of St Francis and the wolf of Gubbio as inspiration, the children wove using ‘tabby weaving’ and ‘Rya knot’ techniques. The painting shows the moment St Francis presents the wolf to the town, not as enemy but as protector and friend. Weaving, apart from being crucial to textile-making, is an activity that enhances concentration, attention to detail and sense of accomplishment

Dopo aver accolto all’inizio dell’anno i bambini di prima elementare, gli amici di quinta hanno deciso di premiare i più piccoli per il loro primo anno di elementari.

Poi tutta la primaria ha salutato i grandi quinta che a loro volta sono stati accolti alle medie con un meraviglioso gioco tutti insieme!

Today’s morning art workshop, we introduced the element of ‘earth’ by focusing on plants and growth. The children observed various local plants and flowers, identifying both the parts of a plant in English and what each part’s function is. The children then created ‘botanical drawings’: detailed observational drawings of plants used to identify and classify these. The first step being pencil sketches and pen outlines, they finished these with watercolours - layering and blending colours
