In the Marchfeld Region of Austria, data is used to reduce waste, improve irrigation planning and support strategic decisions on management. The analysis of satellite data enables the production of maps, multispectral analyses and water infrastructure monitoring, offering the opportunity to combine productivity, environmental protection and responsible use of natural resource.

e-GEOS, part of Space, and are proud to announce the signature of a strategic agreement to jointly develop advanced geospatial intelligence solutions.

The collaboration was formally signed today at the Embassy of Italy in Tokyo (Ambasciata d'Italia/Embassy of Italy - Tokyo) during an institutional ceremony held within the framework of the Italy-Japan Space Dialogues, marking a significant milestone in Italian-Japanese cooperation. The signing ceremony took place in the presence of H.E. Mario Andrea Vattani, Ambassador of to Japan; H.E. Hikariko Ono, Ambassador of to Italy; C. Milena A. Lerario, CEO of e-GEOS; Motoyuki Arai, Founder and CEO of Synspective; and Marco Brancati, SVP, Technology, Innovation & Systems Architecture of .

At AI WEEK in Milan, C. Milena A. Lerario, CEO of e-GEOS, part of , joined Matteo Molteni, Partner Digital Innovation at PwC Italy, for a workshop on the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence in the evolution of the sector and the growing business opportunities enabled by AI-driven geospatial applications.

During the session, several e-GEOS services were presented, showcasing how algorithms support the development of innovative applications across precision agriculture, deforestation monitoring, maritime surveillance, natural disaster management and sustainable urban development.

These use cases highlighted how is now fully integrated into workflows, enabling the processing of a rapidly increasing volume of and multisource data to extract meaningful insights. AI is driving a shift from simple image-based observation to systems that transform data into actionable knowledge, supporting faster and more reliable decision-making across operational contexts.

Yesterday e-GEOS, part of , hosted the side event “𝐁𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐭: 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐛𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐫𝐚” at the ESA - European Space Agency 3rd EO Commercialisation Forum in Seville.

The session, focused on the key levers enabling the transition from R&D and programmes to fully operational and scalable Geoinformation services:

🔹 the integration of SMEs, industry and agencies into a connected European Geoinformation ecosystem
🔹 ’s role in bridging research, technology transfer and market-ready solutions, and the evolving impact of the Programme’s innovative research
🔹 the contribution of security and user-driven services in shaping operational requirements and industrial uptake
🔹 the role of national Space strategies in enabling SMEs to scale into EU-level services

Across these themes, a common thread emerged: the need to strengthen collaboration between institutional programmes, industry and end users to ensure that technological innovation translates into trusted, operational capabilities.

The discussion, moderated by Domenico Grandoni, Vice President R&D and Innovation at e-GEOS, and co-moderated by Carlos Fernández de la Peña, CEO of , featured contributions from:

🛰️ e-GEOS, part of , has successfully completed the validation of the Automatic Identification System (AIS) aboard the Sentinel-1D satellite of the Copernicus EU Programme. The activity contributed to the satellite’s In-Orbit Commissioning phase following last November’s launch.

🚢 The system enables enhanced maritime surveillance by supporting vessel detection and identification at , as well as maritime pattern analysis. The integration of and AIS data allows to detect "dark vessels" which do not transmit their position, and to track ships potentially involved in anomalous behaviours through route reconstruction.

🌍 To validate the AIS payload performance, e-GEOS analysed over 60 Sentinel-1D radar images across six key maritime regions worldwide, from high-traffic zones to open-sea. The analysis leveraged the e-GEOS proprietary solution to correlate vessels detected in the images with the AIS data sensed by the satellite, and to benchmark results against commercial AIS providers.

📡 Sentinel-1D is the latest element of the -1 constellation: the successful completion of the commissioning phase marks the transition to routine operations and the full deployment of the constellation. Sentinel-1 data are also downloaded by the e-GEOS Matera Space Centre, part of the Core Ground Segment of the ESA - European Space Agency.

The conference “𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫: 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐎𝐒𝐌𝐎-𝐒𝐤𝐲𝐌𝐞𝐝 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧”, jointly organized by the Italian Air Force General Staff (Aeronautica Militare), Scuola di Aerocooperazione (also known as Italian Joint Air Operations School - Ita-JAOS) and the Italian Space Agency (Agenzia Spaziale Italiana) as part of the celebrations for the 75th anniversary of the School, highlighted the strategic role of the COSMO-SkyMed satellite constellation in security and environmental monitoring. The event was promoted by e-GEOS, part of .

During the conference, Alessandro Flamini, Head of Defence & Intelligence and COSMO-SkyMed Commercial and Business Development at e-GEOS, joined the round table “Protecting the Territory: Civil Applications of Satellite Data”, presenting the capabilities of the COSMO-SkyMed mission for the protection of the marine environment.

Specifically, Alessandro Flamini highlighted how, through systematic, wide-scale monitoring of maritime areas including offshore regions, COSMO-SkyMed ensures operational capabilities that are unaffected by weather conditions or by the lack of sunlight. Particular attention was dedicated to the e-GEOS solutions for the detection of potential oil spills through advanced data analysis algorithms, as well as to the monitoring of marine protected areas to safeguard fragile ecosystems.

💧 The sustainable management of resources is among the most pressing challenges facing , particularly in those areas where water scarcity is chronic, especially during the summer months. In some areas of southern Spain, water availability can cover only a fraction of agricultural needs, with serious repercussions for one of the country’s most productive regions. Innovative solutions have been experimented in this area, combining precision , constant monitoring of moisture and calibrated management. These approaches have significantly reduced water consumption and emissions, limited groundwater pollution and increased production efficiency.
