John Stayne, post-doctoral fellow of the Institute for Ecumenical Studies participated in the inaugural meeting of the national Catholic–Pentecostal dialogue, which was held on March 31 at Eccleston Square (UK) with the presence of Catholic and Pentecostal theologians and church leaders.

This dialogue is sponsored by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales and the Pentecostal and Charismatic Forum.

Pentecostals and Catholics have had a long and unique relationship, especially after the Second Vatican Council, the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, and the long-running official international Catholic–Pentecostal dialogue. This encounter has entered a new stage with the presence of a Pentecostal observer at the Synod on Synodality and the focus of the study group on Christian unity on the need to better understand Pentecostal and charismatic churches through new national dialogues.

It is often said that the Holy Spirit is “the great unknown” and it is rarely a topic for exchange in Jewish-Christian dialogue. On June 3 the Angelicum - Pontificia Università San Tommaso d'Aquino will welcome two leading scholars in the field, a Jew and a Christian, to enter into conversation, ask each other’s questions and add another layer of depth, analysis, and, ultimately, richness to the academic reflection on the Holy Spirit.

If you want to learn more, join us on June 3 for the public lecture “Who or What is the Holy Spirit for Jews and Christians?” at 5:30pm in Aula 11 at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas. The event is organized by the Oecumenicum – Institute for Ecumenical Studies at the Angelicum and the John Paul II Center for Interreligious Dialogue which supported for 15 years the study of Judaism and interreligious dialogue at the Angelicum and is now sponsoring its last event.
