On February 7 at BookTalk, at Arte Fiera Bologna, and on March 5 at La Central, Madrid, the first monographic catalogue dedicated to Italian artist Alessandra Spranzi
(Milan, 1962) was presented.
Edited by Ilaria Gianni and published by Viaindustriae , the volume is supported by the Direzione Generale Creatività Contemporanea of the Ministero della Cultura, as part of the Italian Council programme (13th edition, 2024).
Conceived as an in-depth reflection on over two decades of artistic practice, the catalogue explores Spranzi’s work across photography, collage, found images, drawing, and video, tracing its evolution from the earliest works to the present. Developed in close collaboration with the artist and graphic designer Filippo Nostri, the book unfolds through both chronological and thematic paths, featuring new contributions by Cecilia Canziani, Ilaria Gianni, Estelle Hoy, Quinn Latimer, and Simone Menegoi.

On March 18th, Lola Giffard-Bouvier, in conversation with Giulia Gaibisso, discussed the artist’s vision behind ° giunone, a flipbook printed in an edition of 100 copies, commissioned by IUNO for it’s IUNO Commissions Program.
For Lola Giffard-Bouvier, the book is a true medium that allows the mark to evolve through transformation and enables the construction of a visual narrative. As the pages of the small book unfold, the multiple personalities of the goddess emerge, represented in the many forms she has embodied over time.
Thank you to Lola and Giulia and to everyone who stopped by!

Book Presentation Update: Sara Basta, Tesoro Carissimo
On February 6th at Alchemilla, Bologna and on March 17th, at Leporello, Rome IUNO presented Tesoro carissimo, the first monograph dedicated to the work and research of Sara Basta, published by Viaindustriae and edited by Cecilia Canziani and Ilaria Gianni.
The publication retraces the artist’s career while examining some of the key themes that inform her practice: the collective dimension, expressed both through the workshop format and through the participatory creation of artworks; the notion of inhabiting, which also implies a political positioning; and the idea of care, which underlies the previous two and is also embodied within the publication itself.
The contributions by Cecilia Canziani, Ilaria Gianni, Ane Rodríguez Armendáriz, Costanza Meli, and Angelika Burtscher weave together the story of Sara Basta’s work starting precisely from a shared sense of friendship and the urgencies that connect them.
The project was realized with the support of the INPS PSMSAD Fund.

IUNO COMMISSION is an invitation to an artist, permanently or temporarily based in Rome, to develop a work for IUNO, stemming from a reflection on the chthonic and celestial figure of Juno. In the time between solstice and equinox, the work is published on our homepage, occasionally expanding in the form of an installation or a performance in our space.

As her residency at IUNO and the workshop dedicated to the development of IMPERCETTIBILE, comes to a close, Wissal Houbabi — poet, performer, and writer — reinterprets the figure of Juno on the occasion of the winter solstice.
As part of IUNO Commissions, the artist presents a new version of the performance “Sorry not Sorry”, conceived in collaboration with Granata Project and artist and designer Rossana La Verde, and hosted on December 18th at MACRO - Museo d'Arte Contemporanea di Roma, in the frame of UNAROMA LIVE, the public program which accompanies and expands the exhibition UNAROMA, a complex and layered portrait of Rome and its artistic scene.
“Sorry not Sorry” is a collective work that celebrates the female body as a territory of knowledge, contradiction, and freedom — a body that, like Juno, inhabits duality. Having evolved through various iterations, the new chapter of the performance unfolds as a fashion show: a codified mode of bodily display, here questioned and subverted. By involving non-standardised subjectivities, far from those typically associated with the world of haute couture, “Sorry not Sorry” transforms an elitist ritual into a celebration, if not a game.
In this process, Rossana La Verde’s costumes play a fundamental role: their shapes enter into direct dialogue with the bodies, responding to each movement, following and embracing it, ultimately merging into a single expansive figure shaped by the gestures unfolding in space.

IUNO is pleased to announce the residency of Wissal Houbabi, poet, performer, and writer, and to host IMPERCETTIBILE, a workshop project taking place between October and December 2025 in the cities of Padua and Rome, culminating in a collective action at the Museum of Civilizations (Museo delle Civiltà) in April 2026.
IMPERCETTIBILE is an experimental exploration of poetic practice led by Wissal Houbabi, together with theatre director Marco Corsucci. Over the course of seven scheduled sessions the participants will be guided in understanding the profound meaning of words and in attempting to reactivate the sound memories preserved within our collective memory.
At the heart of the project lie the artistic and political practices primarily developed by the artist herself, who—drawing from her diasporic experience—places at the center of her research the connection with one’s own body, in any place and time.
