It's our birthday. To celebrate, we called ourselves.

In 2015, in Paris, governments asked scientists for a number. In October 2018 the number arrived: 1.5 degrees, and a deadline to keep it.

On 2 September 2026 the United Nations put it in writing: that number will be exceeded. The task, they say, has shifted from avoiding it to navigating it.

So we put the 2018 us, the 2026 us and the 2050 us on the same call.

Two people answered from 2050. Same face, same age. One lives on an hour of water a day and pays fifteen euro for a coffee. The other watched the world reach 1.8 degrees and come back down.

Neither of them has hung up yet.

Happy birthday, EIIS. This year we're giving ourselves the gift: the future we want.

Whale watching has become a global phenomenon, attracting millions of people who seek to experience the majesty of marine life in its natural habitat.

70% of the planet is covered by water. Yet, only 28.7% of the ocean floor has been mapped.

Meanwhile, the blue economy (fisheries, shipping, energy, tourism) generates an estimated $2.5 trillion a year.

Whoever writes the rules of the ocean writes a chapter of this century's geopolitics.

We have thousands of photographs of our students.

Looked at one by one, they are portraits. Looked at together, they are a map.

122 countries have passed through Palazzo Taverna. Not as a statistic — as a working condition. A room where an agronomist from Kenya, a policy officer from Chile and a textile engineer from Vietnam disagree about the same supply chain is not a diversity target. It is a better analytical instrument.

Sustainability problems are never local. Neither should be the people solving them.

But the story isn't rockets. It's satellites guiding fertilizer use on farms. Orbital data shaping climate policy. GPS quietly holding every supply chain together.

Some things you can't learn from a screen.

For three days, participants in the Biodiversity Manager Program leave the classroom behind: snorkeling in a marine reserve untouched for fifty years, tracking wolves and bears through ancient forests, standing in a lagoon where climate change is rewriting the rules.

It's the moment conservation stops being a subject, and becomes something you can see, touch, and feel.
