Cobalt Wars | ARTE.tv Documentary 10/03/2023

Recycling of Electronics is more important than ever! ♻️♻️♻️

Cobalt is a vital mineral used for safety measures in Batteries! It ensures that the batteries do not overheat or catch fire 🔥🔥🔥

The worlds DEMAND for Cobalt is forecast to increase by 11 times!! From 17,000 tonnes to 194,000 tonnes in 2023. 📈 📈📈

About 70% of the world's cobalt comes from Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and about 20 to 30% of that comes from Artisanal Mining sources. This means Artisanal Mining in DRC produces about 10 to 12% of the world's cobalt. 🇨🇩🇨🇩🇨🇩

Check out this very interesting documentary on Artisanal Mining: https://youtu.be/1kYoSBM-qDk

The conditions that these Artisanal miners are subjective too is nothing short of appalling, and the large Mining Companies that have bought huge swaths of land for the minerals of Copper and Cobalt, destroying the local ecology and environment. Time is running out ⏳⏳⏳

Europe is leading the charge with the switch to Renewables and Electric Vehicles which has increased demand for these minerals exponentially, but your Phone 📱, your laptop 💻, your headphones 🎧, anything you own with a battery will require one mineral or another from one of these Artisanal Mines.

So think about the 4 R's of Good Waste Management:

REDUCE , REUSE, RECYCLE and RECOVER
