Hello, everyone! I'm Rama, an international student in Italy. A year ago, I was lost searching for a suitable master's program abroad, and Open Wings saved me! Now, I'm halfway through my master's in cosmetic sciences at the University of Bologna, and I've joined Open Wings to help non-EU students find their dream university and major. Since my bachelor's, I've dreamed of studying abroad, and now, despite the challenges, I've fulfilled that dream. I understand how tough it can be, and that's why we're here for you.

The Minister of University and Research Maria Cristina Messa reaffirmed the Ministry's desire to maintain the single-cycle degree course in Medicine and Surgery with a limited number of admitted student.

The Minister said that in recent years the number of students admitted to the degree course has increased due to a need in the labor market, but for now she excludes that the much-hated "closed number" is removed.

The explanations given are of an infrastructural and logistical type: last year 70,000 students applied for 14,000 available places. The Minister said that Italian universities and hospitals do not have enough space to admit all these students and that, if they admit them, there would be a risk of compromising the quality of teaching.

❓ In your opinion, which faculties should get rid of the limited number criteria? Let us know in the comments!

The prestigious awards dedicated to the world of university research delivered by the European Research Council for the year 2022 based on results from 2021 certify that Italian researchers are the second best in Europe, immediately after the Germans and before the French.

University researchers from Italy got 58 honours, eight more than in the 2020 edition, the final one before the Covid-19 epidemic halted the competition. The proportion of awardees is increasing, from 11 to 15%.

🏆 Two awards were given to the University of Florence, the University of Pavia, Ca' Foscari, Bocconi, Sapienza, and Alma Mater, which is ranked second in the ranking of the best universities to find work in Italy according to the new QS employability ranking 2022.

Congratulations to our researchers! And you, have you ever considered doing research?

One of the key goals of the Italian Prime Minister, Mario Draghi, is to make research a central element of the school system in order to keep young people from fleeing the nation. He pledged a 30-billion-euro investment in education and research.

"Today, we face anti-scientific attitudes that seek to delegitimise individual scientists or their organisations. We must safeguard them and foster a scientific culture, as well as promote their fundamental position in society." These are the prime minister's words, which he plans to uphold owing to numerous financial sources.

The objective is to revert the trend that finds Italy leading Europe in terms of new PhDs, despite the fact that the number plummeted by 40% between 2008 and 2019. To reverse this tendency, scholarships will be increased, from 8-9 thousand to 20 thousand per year, boosting the sums and elevating the title even outside of the academic career.

Draghi also mentioned top jobs, vowing to focus more on women and emphasizing that there are still too few girls who pick STEM disciplines (about one in five).

To sum up, he says, "Without research, there can be no invention, and without innovation, there can be no advancement." And everyone in positions of authority or with the potential to influence public discourse must be able to discern between what is reality and what is just opinion."
