Turning Project Results into Lasting Impact 🌍

On 27 July, the REBUILD Project partners met online to coordinate the next phase of our work.

During the Coordination Meeting, we focused on the upcoming activities within Work Package 5 – Impact, Sustainability and Follow-up, discussing how to ensure that the project's outcomes continue to deliver value well beyond its lifetime.

Over the coming months, we will focus on:
• developing and finalising the Sustainability Plan to secure the long-term impact of REBUILD results,
• preparing and discussing Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with stakeholders to strengthen future cooperation,
• engaging stakeholders and planning the continued use of REBUILD training materials, digital resources, and the partnership network.

Strong collaboration among all project partners is essential to creating lasting impact and supporting sustainable reconstruction through education, innovation, and international cooperation.

A big thank you to all partners for the productive discussions, valuable contributions, and continued commitment to the project. We look forward to the next milestones!

REBUILD Workshops: Learning, Sharing, Growing Togethe

Yesterday, as part of the REBUILD project, we held two inspiring workshops with our partners: Lviv Applied College of Building, Architecture and Design (Ukraine) and Center of Excellence in Construction – IPCEC (Moldova).4

The workshops provided an opportunity to reflect on their experiences within the project and to discuss the skills, competences, and knowledge they have gained throughout this collaboration.

Among the key outcomes highlighted by the partners were:
✔️ a better understanding of EU regulations and standards in construction and reconstruction,
✔️ knowledge of modern reconstruction methods and sustainable building solutions,
✔️ strengthened expertise in resilience, circular economy, and energy efficiency,
✔️ access to EU partners’ experiences and good practices,
✔️ enhanced teaching competences and new educational approaches.

A particularly important takeaway was the value of international partnerships — learning from each other, exchanging perspectives, and building joint solutions for future reconstruction challenges.
The partners also emphasized the need for continued mentoring, the development of teaching materials, and further cooperation to effectively implement the knowledge gained in their institutions and continue their professional growth.

This clearly shows that REBUILD is not just a project, but the beginning of long-term collaboration, capacity building, and a strong international network supporting sustainable reconstruction.

Day 3 of the REBUILD Study Visit in Georgia

The third day of the study visit brought participants to the historic region of Kutaisi, where cultural heritage and modern educational infrastructure provided valuable insights into preservation, restoration, and sustainable development.

🏛️ The day began with a technical visit to the Gelati Monastery, one of Georgia’s most significant medieval cultural and religious landmarks. Founded in 1106 by King David IV “the Builder”, the complex served as an important centre of education, science, and spiritual life during Georgia’s Golden Age. Participants explored the site's architectural heritage and learned about ongoing conservation efforts aimed at preserving its historical value.

⛪ The programme continued with a visit to Motsameta Monastery, a picturesque hilltop monastery dating back to the 11th century. The visit highlighted restoration practices that have helped maintain the site's unique architectural and cultural character while ensuring its preservation for future generations.

🎓 In the afternoon, the delegation visited Kutaisi International University, where participants took part in a workshop and explored the university’s modern campus. The visit showcased contemporary approaches to educational infrastructure, innovative learning environments, and sustainable campus development integrated with the surrounding landscape.

The day offered an inspiring perspective on how historical heritage and modern construction can coexist, providing valuable lessons for sustainable reconstruction and development.

Day 2 of the REBUILD Study Visit in Georgia 🇬🇪

The second day of our study visit in Georgia provided a deeper understanding of the challenges related to sustainable reconstruction and the education of future construction professionals.

Participants learned about the impact of the 2002 earthquake in Georgia and its long-term consequences. More than two decades later, many communities are still facing the effects of this disaster, and the country continues its efforts to rebuild and strengthen its infrastructure. We had the opportunity to learn how local institutions are using past experiences to create safer, more resilient and sustainable environments.

An important part of the programme was dedicated to visits to our project partners – Construct2 and Spectri College. Both institutions play a key role in vocational education and training, combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills development for careers in the construction sector.

During the visits, participants explored modern training facilities and took part in practical demonstrations covering:

🔹 construction safety and emergency response procedures,
🔹 first aid and CPR training,
🔹 surveying and measurement technologies used on construction sites,
🔹 digital tools and construction machinery simulators,
🔹 innovative vocational training methods preparing future construction professionals.

The exchange of experiences and good practices clearly demonstrated how closely sustainable reconstruction and high-quality vocational education are connected in building resilient communities for the future.

On Tuesday we officially started our final study visit within the REBUILD Project – Capacity Building Program for Sustainable Reconstruction.

This visit to Georgia is a valuable opportunity to learn from local experiences and discover best practices related to sustainable reconstruction, vocational education and training, and cooperation between education providers and industry partners.

The first day began with the 10th Coordination Meeting, during which project partners reviewed the progress achieved so far. We discussed the results and achievements of WP4 and were introduced to the next stage of the project through the presentation of WP5 and its planned activities.

In the afternoon, we had the opportunity to visit College SPECTRI, learn more about its educational approach, and take part in technical visits showcasing innovative and sustainable solutions. We visited the modern MEAMA Factory, an excellent example of contemporary industrial design and integration with the surrounding environment, as well as the historic State Silk Museum in Tbilisi, which highlights the importance of preserving and adapting cultural heritage.

The coming days will bring further opportunities for knowledge exchange, networking, and learning from Georgian partners. Looking forward to the next activities and inspiring discussions!

In the ReBuild project, we place strong emphasis on the fact that one of the key elements of building reconstruction is sustainability—not as an add-on, but as the starting point for every design and investment decision.

In the context of Europe and countries such as Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia, reconstruction goes far beyond restoring infrastructure. It is an opportunity to implement modern standards that combine efficiency, resilience, and environmental responsibility.

What is sustainable building reconstruction?
It is an approach that integrates reconstruction with energy and climate transformation, while also addressing social needs and the local context.

Just to remind, the key principles are:
• energy efficiency and emissions reduction
• use of low-carbon materials and recycling
• lifecycle thinking in building design and decision-making
• resilience to climate change and crisis situations
• engagement of local communities in the reconstruction process

ReBuild project aims to demonstrate that reconstruction can be a catalyst for long-term change—leading to more resilient and sustainable cities.

This is not just about rebuilding what was lost. It is about consciously shaping the future. 🌱
