La Scuola di Valle di Lazzaro

The Valle di Lazzaro School has its origins in the nineteenth century great Neapolitan painting.

Domenico Morelli (1823–1901) was an Italian painter, who mainly produced historical and religious works. Morelli was immensely influential in the arts of the second half of the 19th century, both as director of the Accademia di Belle Arti in Naples,
but also because of his rebelliousness against institutions: traits that flourished into the passionate, often patriotic, Romantic and later Symbolis

Filippo Palizzi (1818-1899) was an advocate of the need to bring academic teaching up to date, he devote himself to the study from the life, especially of landscapes and animals, orienting his painting towards a realism of intimate poetic intonation. In Naples he was landscape professor of the Accademia di Belle Arti, and he founded the Società Promotrice di Belle Arti in 1861 together with Domenico Morelli. Carlo Siviero (1882-1953) began to study painting as apprentice to Tommaso Celentano. Later, in the artistic atmosphere of Naples, he met great artists like Vincenzo Gemito, Antonio Mancini, Francesco Paolo Michetti. In 1899 he started to study at the Accademia delle Belle Arti of Naples, under the teaching of Morelli and Palizzi. He exhibited his art in the most important echibitions in Italy, then in Europe, where he was brought in contact with great artists. He was elected president of the Accademia di Belle Arti in Naples and later of the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome. Ortensio Gionfra (1918-2012), pupil of Carlo Siviero, was a friar painter in Rome in the Monastery of S. Bonaventura al Palatino, and he was the first teacher of Luciano Regoli.
